Culture Alert! Euan Morton in Concert!

Categories: Quick Q&A

The delectable Euan Morton can deftly perform drag pop (he was Tony-nominated as Boy George in Taboo), French classics (he just appeared in supporting roles in Cyrano de Bergerac), and Shaw (he recently stole the show when we both appeared in some one-acts and I may never forgive him for it). The Scottish imp is playing the Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room from March 4 through March 29, and in between vocal exercises, he managed to answer my tremulous queries:

Q: Hi, Euan. What's the thing people don't know about you?

Euan: The biggest one (literally) is that I was the only boy in high school to have his kilt lengthened.

Q: Hmm. Lets be friends. Anyway, Cyrano started with you barreling drunkenly around the stage. Your inspiration?

Euan: The plight of the Scottish during the "Highland Clearances" when my people drank the entire boat ride from Scotland to the States!

Q: They put the high in highland! Musically, would you rather listen to Bach or Britney?

Euan: Give me a Scottish folk tune any day! Nah, I'm only kidding. I wouldn't grab either of those first off the CD shelf, so right now my answer is Ladytron (the Light and Magic CD).

Q: Bach will be so hurt. Who are you still friends with—Rosie, Boy George, Charles Busch, or none of the above?

Euan: Who said we were even friends to start with? I had to sleep my way to the top during that show!

Q: Well, you've apparently got the equipment to do so.
