A 23-Year-Old Observation About Sally Field

No, it's not that she should have started taking Boniva much earlier. It's that when she gave her famous 1985 Oscar speech for Places in the Heart--you know, the one about how the first time she won the award, she was way insecure, but this time she knew for sure that "You like me!"--Sally was a tad off base. The reality is, the first time she won, THAT'S when Hollywood was saying it liked her. Her performance in Norma Rae was a revelation, full of spunk and nuance--enormously heroic and gritty--and movieland absolutely adored her for it. In Places, she was quite fine, but that time she basically won because the other contenders weren't all that astounding. So Sally's speech should have been, "When I won for Norma Rae, it was because you really, really liked me. But this time, it was because it was a really bad year."

Maybe I have too much free time on my hands?
