Why Chimps Attack Humans

The big story last week was the one about that captive Connecticut chimp Travis going batty on a human lady, leading to her severe mauling, his own death at the hands of coppers, and most tragically of all, a bad New York Post cartoon. But can we at least learn from this horrid interspecies incident? An article in Scientific American tries to uncover why a chimp would use such hairy-knuckled brute force on a person. Was it the fact that his owner had him on Xanax (though she later backtracked and said she didn't)? Was he upset about the co-pay?
