What do you mean by we can choose same-sex or opposite marriage? What does opposite marriage mean? How can we choose opposite marriage? I want to know what that means. She says that in her country and in her family she thinks that she believes that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. And? Did you want to answer if you think every state should follow suit? And why or why not? So, if her answering Perez's question by not really answering it is all we get, I am left to guess that her intended answer is "No, because I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman." Okay. That's great. You are entitled to your beliefs. We all have them. What that answer means is, because of her beliefs, other states should not follow suit. Here is where I think the controversy in regards to her answer lies. A belief is personal, yet an equal right is not. Because of her personal beliefs, other people should not have equal rights is what her answer boils down to. That's making quite a statement and I think that's where the upset began. If you are straight and want to get married? Good for you. If you are gay and want to get married? Good for you. If you want to withhold equal rights from others based on your own personal beliefs? You are interfering with other people's lives. You are projecting your beliefs onto them. To be shocked over an outcry from this incident is silly. She basically stated she doesn't believe in equal rights. And if marriage is so sacred, which it's not. Divorce is legal and has been for a long time. There's nothing, no institution to protect as long as divorce remains legal. But if marriage is so sacred, give the gays their equal rights and call their marriage something else then. Big deal. This is about equal rights and they are being denied.
