What Would You Tell Your Mentor?
On the way in to a dinner the other night for Out Professionals' cofounder Jack Schlegel--one of the most connected gays in the city--we were asked to complete a name card and wear it as a pin.
It said, "Jack Schlegel taught me..." And we had to rummage through our dizzy heads and write in the rest.
Well, the guests had a blast coming up with all sorts of wild completions to that--some true, some fanciful, all heartfelt.
OP board member Twilla Duncan wrote "goat roping," which is far more appealing and exotic than mere cattle roping or pig branding.
I wrote the more generic "everything."
But tell me what YOU would write to your mentor or icon? What did they teach you?
Come on, sing your own version of that old Lulu tune "To Sir With Love" and divulge just who has taken you from crayons to perfume and how you'd thank them.
