Marc Christian Has Passed?

• About 3 or 4 years ago, Marc revealed who he was to me. I knew him as Erik (or Thorshammeruc) on the Internet. I had been an online friend of his for about 10 years. I was shocked to learn that I had known Erik (or Marc) as an online friend (and someone who I had hooked up with a couple times) but had not known of his past as the Rock Hudson ex-lover.  My point in posting this is... One night, about 3 or 4 years ago, Erik (or I'll say, Marc) said hi to me on AOL. It was brief. He said he was moving away from Los Angeles because he just didn't want to be around all the Los Angeles types anymore. I asked him if he was sick or something? I couldn't understand why he was moving away.  He said he was going to live near his sister and just have a normal life. I told him that sounds great. I didn't understand why he was saying, "Good bye" to me though. I said that I'd keep chatting with him online like we always had.  He told me that he was most likely going to cancel his online life so that people wouldn't be able to find him. Marc was both sweet to me and horribly cruel.  He would say he was just being honest, not cruel.  I'd say sometimes he was just being a prick.  Either way, he signed on to tell me good-bye. Odd.  Today, someone posted a picture of Rock Hudson on Facebook and I mentioned that I knew one of his ex-lovers.  I googled Marc's name and only now found out about his death. I hope the story isn't true. I hope he is some where far from Los Angeles living the life he wants to live.  If not, I just think it was odd that he contacted me the way he did. And now, everyone thinks he is dead.  I don't know. The Erik...Marc...I knew.  Would fake his own death just because he thought he could get away with it. Erik, if your out there. It's your loft friend. I know you won't say hi, but good for you if your fooling everyone. Have I told you lately your an asshole, but say hi if your passing by Downtown.  LOL. You always did things your way. A true libertarian.

Oh...did I mention this friend was well-known, a once very famous and beloved Superstar?           Yet, because of the...circumstances surrounding his death, the discrimination because he was gay, and the atrociousness of the out and out lies by his accuser, such an inaccurate portrait was painted of your friend that you hardly recognized him as the fine man you knew.  In fact, twenty-five years after his demise, your friend is still chiefly remembered because he had AIDS. Not that he was a talented actor who entertained millions of people.  Not for the all-around nice man he was.      The unfairness of it all!      What would you do?        I wrote this book.  My name is Martin  Flaherty, and I have just completed the first in what I hope to be a series of books entitled, "At Home" with Rock Hudson: Behind the Walls of His Life.   Yes, my friend was Rock Hudson; I worked for him for a decade and played with him and I knew him perhaps better than anybody, those last ten years of his life. We had so many outrageously fun times together; Rock had such a great sense of humor, and I have many of the anecdotes he personally related to me from his life and his career.  For those not familiar with the life of this star who shaped the way the world saw AIDS, maybe it is time to learn.  I also have countless...shall we say...unusual stories from my experiences at his house, the typical days spent with the less than typical characters within Rock Hudson's "Castle".  Yes, he called his home the "Castle", and he was a king of a man and I want the world to finally know him as I did, to remember him with love and the respect he deserved from a life spent devoted to his fans.                      Martin F.J. Its as if you had a good grasp on the subject matter, but you didn't remember to include your readers. Maybe you should think of this from more than 1 direction. • Boy there are alot of comments out there without alot of facts.......his house was at 3457 N Knoll drive......it is creepy looking and the real estate website (house sold 12/09 and was listed as a probate sale, meaning the owner died) on the inside its incredibly tacky...........this is a tale of how not to live your life..There were reports the guy lost his $ on a failed chili restaurant franchise of all things and was sitting around waiting for the house to be foreclosed. If that is true, I would guess he let his health go and just hoped for the end quickly. Did he die of aids or a drug overdose, I doubt it, I think he just gave up at 56 if you ask me. One thing needs to be cleared up, the settlement he got from Hudson was paid out of Hudsons homeowners insurance and umbrella ins policies thru personal injury claims, he didnt steal any $ from the beneficiaries....While he did not contact aids from Hudson the reason he won the case is he could have... anyone with half a brain would understand Hudson showed willful diregard for this guys life. Aids was viewed differently in the 80 s, remember.

• Has anyone on here been inside his house on N Knoll Drive? What was it like inside? Looks sort of weird from the street view, kind of a depressing blue industrial look. Marc was a public figure, like it or not, and people are curious about his life. If he really had dreams of being a rock musician, followed by his high profile life involving Rock Hudson and later Rock Hudson's estate, he should have at least expected that curiosity, if not appreciated it somewhat. He did not lead his life anonymously.

• The comment by JDR is correct. Marc would have been 56 three weeks after his passing on June 2. He did not have HIV or AIDS. Stresses and depression led to his illness that caused pheumonia. We became friends in 1971 in high school, fooled around as underage teens, hung out at his family home, experienced life in West Hollywood as young men, his relationship with Rock and the years following. He was a great guy and good friend, unfortunately he didn't reach out for help until he was too ill to recover.

• I met Marc in the early 90's. He was in a store in West Hollywood where I was working. He asked me out on a date. We went to see a movie, and after ended up back at his place. He was a very sweet guy. Gentle and quiet. Very manly. He was a great kisser, and yes he had a very big penis, but he was so much more. We went out one or two more times, and then sort of went out seperate ways. I have nothing bad to report about him. While we were together, I did not know him as a drinker, nor a druggie. • One more update: Now I'm told that Mark died in March or April and it wasn't reported because his real full name isn't Marc Christian so it wasn't noticed. A small memorial was supposedly held at his home in July. I'll pursue this in a few moments.

• In 1999 my roommate and I moved to Los Angeles. We were fresh off the bus from Louisiana. We got out our gay guide to LA out and ended up in a bar called the Oasis in Studio City. The first person we met was Marc Christian. He took us under his wing and affectiontaley referred to us as "his kids". While Marc was a controversial figure in the gay community and was often portrayed negatively, the Marc I knew was generous, kind, and welcoming. I will always be thankful for the times we all shared eating at Sitton's, watching movies and old news footage, hearing him lovingly tell stories about memorabilia and old photos. I hope this story is not true but if it is I am deeply saddened. You will be missed.
