Does The Money Really Get To Haiti?

• If there is one thing I DON'T want to see, it's Spencer Pratt's pasty a** on my TV screen, especially if it's anywhere near his wife, who appears to be made of Playdough. I threw up in my mouth just typing that. This man is a bottom feeder. Please die, soon. And why the h*ll is he BEIGE?!? I don't know if he's a albino who discovered spray tanning or what, but he's the only person I've ever seen who is truly monochromatic. <A href="http://www.fleshlightoffers.com">:)</A>

• I'm just saying that when disaster strikes, most other cities seem to do just fine on their own without federal assistance. These are local issues and should be handled by local government. Why should I have to pay because some idiot lives in a swamp in the middle of hurricane territory and didn't take the proper precautions? They should have built their own levees and they should have made sure it was done correctly.

• New Orleans DID prepare -- only levees that were later proved to be sub-standard were built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who cut costs and didn't dig the levee walls deep enough. This is the story that STILL never seems to get out to the public! And guess what? They've built levees all over the U.S. which could fail just as disastrously as New Orleans' did.

• Ah so Anonymous. So it's New Orleans' fault - they wanted to drown - just to make Bush look bad! Can't a president enjoy playing guitar and eating birthday cake while a major U.S. city is nearly destroyed? I mean, it's not like the Bush Administration had been warned about the precarious state of the levies months beforehand - hey, they couldn't waste money on that nonsense - it had to be funneled upward to the very rich, where it belongs.

• I am so sick of everyone feeling sorry for New Orleans. How come you never hear about the blizzard in Colorado a few years ago, or the blizzard in Minnesota a few weeks ago? Because they knew it was a very real possibility and they PREPARED ACCORDINGLY!

• Write a check to the Red Cross and mail it. That's the closest you'll get to being sure. DO NOT donate to cashiers or street-corner firemen. Do you think little Jimmy ever sees any of those quarters? Doubt it. Cashiers use them for laundry.

• The answer is simple: You have no way of knowing. Just as we have no way of knowing where all the Katrina money went. The Mississippi Gulf Coast has prospered. New Orleans is still largely a mess, apart from the areas of town tourists see...

• At D'agostino it's very vague: "Do you want to give a dollar to help Haiti?"

• I donated to "Doctors without borders" and all I have heard since is that they have not been able to land in Haiti because of the problems at the airport. I stopped donating to American Red Cross a few years ago after the press told us they had squandered donations. It does make me wonder if I should just donate to the local food bank and leave it at that.

• Having Nicole Kidman be the one on the Globes who spoke about the need to help Haiti was a weird choice. She's the one whose Oscar speech alluded to some problem faraway (meaning Iraq) which she didn't even seem to understand.

• I;d say maybe 10% of the money goes to Haiti, and that'll have to be good enough.

• anybody remember the nun who used to silently sit at the port authority, with idiots giving her money...? she was a fake--duh!
