Promises, Promises Breaks Its Promises

The eagerly awaited Broadway revival of Promises, Promises--with a lovely Burt Bacharach/Hal David score--has expanded its set list, either to give costar Kristin Chenoweth a bigger part or to pander to audience cravings for more hits, or both.

"I Say a Little Prayer" has been sandwiched into the show and so has "A House is Not a Home"! That's two more hits for your money!

Those are classic songs, and I look forward to seeing how they work when shoehorned into the musical.

But as long as they're fiddling around in order to make things more jukeboxy, why not add some other Bacharach/David hits like:

"Alfie." Just change the Sean Hayes character's name to "Alfie" so it'll fit.

"Message to Michael." Ditto. Or just name him "Alfie Michael," so you can include both songs.

"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head." Would it be so expensive to add some weather effects in one scene?

"What's New, Pussycat?" Surely, Kristin could have a pet cat, for God's sakes.

Or how about adding "Volare" for the curtain calls? It's not Bacharach, but it's a great song!
