Can Anyone Explain The Goldman Sachs Investigation?

So I desperately need some help in understanding the Goldman Sachs mess currently being investigated.
Please help me grasp, in simple language, just what it is they've been accused of doing--and who they are in the first place!
Is this like the Enron scandal, and does that mean it will result in a Broadway play with lots of spcial effects and mixed reviews?
Does it have anything to do with Cher?
