Vincente Minnelli and Gene Kelly Had an Affair?

That's what Mrs. Minnelli, Judy Garland, thought, according to the new book about the illustrious director, A Hundred or More Hidden Things: The Life and Films of Vincente Minnelli by Mark Griffin.

During the filming of 1948's The Pirate, Judy was a complete mess who didn't always show up on the set, and during some of her absences, Minnelli apparently bonded extra tightly with Kelly--on the work, mind you.

Minnelli felt Judy was being "paranoid" when she went into jealous rages about his bond with Gene Kelly, which was strictly professional, of course.

But was she so out of line, considering that another passage in the book has a male actor describing the crush Kelly had on the actor's stand-in (who ultimately got the part, thanks to Kelly)?

Not to mention the story, repeated in the book, that Judy once walked in on Vincente with a male domestic?

That time, she went into a whole other fit and supposedly tried to slice her wrists in despair.

Paranoid?
