To double check it, I looked up lifetime b.o. gross totals on boxofficemojo.com and sure enough, Eddie tops other heavyweights like Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and even Morgan Freeman, who's in practically everything!
Eddie's amazing dominance, despite--I mean because of--hits like The Nutty Professor and Dr. Dolittle, not to mention four Shreks--is something that I think I knew deep down in my craw, but is so astounding I somehow forgot.
Congrats to the funnyman.
