Sutton Foster Shows Off at the Carlyle

She's a hard-working, creamy-voiced, ultra-likeable singer/actor, and at her Cafe Carlyle opening night, she was introduced by Donna Murphy as "a teacher who thinks she's still a student."

Sutton taught the crowd how to exude charm while singing slinky love songs, cut tunes from Thoroughly Modern Millie and Shrek, and her Drowsy Chaperone number about not wanting to show off, during which she cagily pulled out her Tony award.

A highlight had Sutton asking Zach Braff in the audience to randomly pick one of five song titles placed in her "Ho" cup. He cheated and picked "Defying Gravity," to which Sutton said, "Shit!" but she made it fly anyway.

The act has a little too much heartfelt and pretty -- let's dig deeper into the Ho cup next time - -but still, talent like this is hard to come by.
