Can Rod Stewart Sing?

I've been tellling you about the wonderful Barbara Cook and the saucy stuff she says in her show with Michael Feinstein at Feinstein's at the Loews Regency.

Well, among other things, she talks about losing the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album to Rod Stewart, of all people, back in 2005.

Rod won the honor for one of those American Songbook albums he rasped out, and Cook admits, "I thought it was terrible at first."

But the songstress nobly adds that she heard it again at her son's place, though she didn't really know what she was listening to.

"I said, "Who's that woman with the great voice?' " Cook remembers.

At this point, Feinstein points out that Stewart based his vocals on Billie Holiday's versions. Feinstein says Stewart did Billie to a T, "except for the heroin.'"

"Let's not get into that," advises Cook.
