Cary Grant and Randolph Scott: A Love Story, Part II

• I've read that West became disenchanted with Grant when she needed photos of handsome hunks. He said to her that this is my favorite guy and her showed her a pic of Scott.  Well he was supposed to be in her next movie and she had him axed.

• I like to say they were living openly in the closet.

• Sidebar Grant and Scott were born in January, and they died within 4 months of each other. I think they were soulmates!

• He simply was the best there ever was but he was a product of the time. Homsexuality was illegal and then the Hays Code came about. If things were then like they are today, I think him and Scott would be together until the end of their lives!

• I agree with you 100%. Grant didn't renew his contract with Paramount in 1935. In the beginning of their relationship, the studio was always offering to pair Scott with an actress to which he simply said "no thank you."

• well should you file fafsa your aid should be higher. the fact that you've got a child should mean that you are a independent student. also you happen to be independent if you might be over the age of 24. this means they will base your aid off of your income for the entire year. also they will ask you if you might have any dependents that will recieve more then half of your aid. and since you have a son, your income will probably be stretched furthers. thus you should get sufficient aid to cover the cost of living and tuition. but it also depends on whether or not that you are current on the loans you've now. i dont know when you would recieve aid should you havent been making the payment on the loans you had previously. and i have never heard of welfare giving out funds for school, but maybe it depends on the state.

• Busted...Ya know, my "screen name" has been getting on my nerves lately...it was originally a play on "Bing Crosby," but I'm over it...it brings to mind a sweaty, psychotic slob who hasn't had a proper bath in about 9 years. So, herein, I'm Gregorama. As for the guy wearing the hat indoors, I'm guessing that photo was either at the fights or a racing event, where it was socially permissable for men to wear their hats.

• There is a good new book, though it's a little bookish too, about a guy named Sam Steward. It's called Secret Historian. It's not about the movies, but it does show a lot of gay life in the 1930s-1960s. Sam was not average at all, (he was buds with Gertrude Stein & Alice and Alfred Kinsey!) but if all gay men read it, they would see some of themselves in it especially if they lived gay in that era. Sam was wildly gay, had tons of sex and wrote it all down.

• In the film adaptation of Tennessee Williams' novel, "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone," Lotte Lenya says about Warren Beatty's character, the young, flawlessly beautiful gigolo, (paraphrasing)"The great beauties make their own set of laws". I wonder if that might have been true in the case of Randy and Cary: With such eye-searing beauty, perhaps it's true that they simply "got on with" their lives as they saw fit and only allowed the studios to run their lives up to a point. It would have taken great self-confidence and balls of steel to face-down, say, Adolph Zukor, head of Paramount....but Cary Grant and Randolph Scott were two of the first "free agent" major stars in the late 1930's who did not continue signing long-term studio contracts; rather, they "floated" to whichever project/studio they liked. That could be ONE reason why they had a bit more leeway in being so open with their "lifestyle," (a term that didn't exist then---and I wish didn't exist NOW!) since they didn't have a studio breathing down their necks, telling them to knock it off....just a theory....also, in picture #7, that's a montage picture I did of the two of them...just so you don't think I'm trying to pass it off as an actual shot of the two of them. Just two very sharp fellows out on the town. Hats...will hats ever come back?

• Two attractive men in photos together, sometimes w/o their shirts -- they're gay. Y'all have been watching too much Jerry Springer.

• Thanks JoeyO'H ... that whole Miss business really burns my butt. And yes, what a beautiful couple they made. However, as huge Hollywood celebs, I'm sure they have a much happier life than your average-Joe gay couples of the era. The 2nd pic with Cary and the medicine-ball (shorts above the belly-button) - priceless (and beautiful).

• Why is it (as in case of poster bellestar) refer to a gay man as Miss? In the case of bellestar's remark as "MISS GRANT?" As a gay man myself, I find that very offensive. Cary Grant is not a Miss but a Mister. People, get it right please? On Grant and Scott, they seem to be have very much in love and good for them. Some people never get that feeling ever in their lives. It's just a shame they could never really be out.

• Before Cary Grant passed away he made a comment that MAE WEST (She Done Him Wrong) never told the truth in her life...Im sure Mae was on to MISS GRANT but chose him as her leading man because of his physical beauty..there are not many physical scenes between her and Mr Grant in the that movie...Mae like real men and I dont think she considered Cary Grant the real article..lucky for him she didn't tell the truth about him....goodbye career.

• As gorgeous as Grant was, I was never attracted to him. Same with Gregory Peck, Clark Gable, Robert Redford, etc. To each his own, I guess.

• Hard to believe some publicist said " Let's put two washed up hunks together in photo shoots," but stranger things have happened.

• Let's look at this: In the early thirties, "out" actors like Billy Haines and Ram�ovarro had a rough time in Hollywood. In fact, by the time these pictures of Grant and Scott were taken their careers were all washed up. But here we are looking at these publicity photos as if Grant and Scott were happily married and everyone knew it. While I'd really like to believe they had a relationship, I am more inclined to believe this is a Paramount publicist's concoction that, due to the transcendent physical beauty of these guys, has become something more than what it really was. Anyone else thinking along these lines?

• He can keep his socks on if he likes---all the porn stars do it.

• OK so we learned of Cary's kinky preference for wearing lacy undergarments, BUT how does one explain his wearing of white socks on the beach? And then I read that professional beach volleyball players wear socks when the weather is too much to handle. On a sunny day the sand can reach over 120 degrees while it might only be 90 degrees outside. There is only so much your feet can take and for that reason some creative beach volleyball fanatics invented a type of sock (sand socks, or sand skins) that you could wear that would not let sand get in and be thick enough to protect your feet from temperature extremes. Cary was a delicate flower and way ahead of his time.

• He's certainly barefoot in the tub!
