• Seth, Seth, go away. The day of the mincing Bway queen cliche is gone. After your travesty of They're Playing Our Song, go away. And BTW it is CAROLE Bayer Sager not CAROL Bayer Sager.

• "I hate that nowadays there are shows "for children." Back then, when you were a kid, you just saw a Broadway show." So true! But then he talks about being inspired by "Annie" when he was a kid!(?). There've always been kiddie shows, think about it...the best ones try to cover the middle ground. I love this guy. He's a great interviewee. The back and forth about Mamma Mia and the death of musical theater was hysterical. Great column and a real hoot to come home to.

• RE: It was a raked stage, so the stream must have reached all the way to the oboe player. All the while I imagined a 'Karesansui' garden, a Japanese dry landscape that Ms. Lopez drenched and irrigated. Thanks MM, one learns something new every day. English theatre stages in the Middle Ages and early Modern era typically sloped upwards away from the audience. This is known as a rake or raked stage and improves the view for the audience. On a raked stage an actor who is farther from the audience is higher than an actor who is closer to the audience. This led to the theatre positions "upstage" and "downstage," meaning, respectively, farther from or closer to the audience. The practice of "upstaging" other actors comes from the practice of moving to a more elevated position on the rake, causing the upstaged actor (who stays more downstage) to turn his back to the audience to address the cast member. The term "upstaging" also has since taken on the figurative meaning of an actor unscrupulously drawing the audience's attention away from another actor.

• Godspell revival planning to come to Broadway in the spring. Molly Shannon being talked about as a replacement for Katie Finneran in "Promises, Promises." "Viagara Falls" closed but plans to come back! I'll go back to my vacation now.
