• My Fat Friend was my first Broadway play (it was on Broadway, no?) I was an out-of-towner and thought I was scared of NY; that changed pretty quick.

• #1 Lena Horne: She reminded me of my grandmother. #2 Gary Coleman: Grew up watching him on Dif'frent Strok and it seemed like he could never catch a break in life after the show. #3 Teena Marie: Loved her voice. To me, best female vocalistis, black or white. Always felt this way about her. Coveyed so much fun, emotion, and soul in her voice.

• The thing about June Havoc (born Ellen Hovick and sister of Gypsy Rose Lee) is that she was one of the very last entertainers who links all the way back to the heyday of vaudeville. Veterans of which were to basically define movies of the 30s/40s/50s - particularly musicals - and then television variety shows. This involves staggering talents all the way from Abbott and Costello, Burns and Allen, and W. C. Fields to Fred Astaire and most particularly Judy Garland and the cast of The Wizard Of Oz. These people cut their teeth on untold hours performing for live audiences, and are completely "gone with the wind".

• There was a wonderful Auntie Mame character by the name of Dodie Rosekrans who passed quietly away last month in San Francisco. Her last words: "I'm happy." She was a social type, not an actress. Not many people knew of her, but she was quite the character and she will be missed by many. From your list, the most poignant for me is Lynn Redgrave. What a family. I actually saw her in 1974 on Broadway in My Fat Friend. She was the underling in the Redgrave Dynasty and yet she had enormous success. Unfortunately, the dreaded C word, not to mention the antics of her asshat husband, cut short her trajectory.
