My Weirdest Piece Of Press Ever

Surely you read about the Portuguese gossip columnist who was recently killed and castrated by a psycho 20-year-old at the Intercontintal Hotel.

Well, in a New York Observer piece about this tragedy, the older man, Carlos Castro, is identified as a Portuguese version of me!

Says the article, Castro was "known for his gay activism and flamboyant public escapades" and they add, "One journalist callled him Portugal's Michael Musto".

Gee, I'm thrilled, I guess--though I'm not 65 and I don't plan on being killed and castrated by a psycho 20-year-old at the Intercontinental Hotel!

(There are so many fancier places.)

But I'll relax. Though one journalist is quoted in the article as saying that Castro wasn't really respected, someone else weighs in that "Everyone wanted to be friends with him...He was kind of influential."

Hey, I'm getting more and more flattered about this.

Carlos Castro known as a gossip columnist in Portugal but, according to his friends, he hated the term. He prefered to be seen as a journalist. As a gay man, he was out at a time, when being gay in Portugal was regarded as shameful and immoral. He was known to organize a very popular drag queen event, with proceeds going to AIDS causes. Many celebrities in Portugal became famous through him.

As I was reading, before I even read "I don't plan on being killed..." I was thinking you would have sense enough to have a hot young stud to play with that was either crazy about you/on the same page with you about getting paid/or whatever. Otherwise, they are saying he was a witty bon vivant (sp?) around the cosmopolitan scene, which is like you!
