Star Trek Writer/Producer Regrets That There Were No Gays

Gays would have loved to say mildly suggestive things like, "Beam me up, Scotty"!

But there weren't any in Star Trek. (I'm talking about the characters, not the actors, mind you.)

And now, a writer/producer of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Brannon Braga, tells Afterelton.com that he deeply regrets that lapse.

Says Braga, "It was a shame for a lot of us. It was not a forward-thinking decision."

As someone notes on Datalounge.com, there were occasionally hinty episodes "like the one where Commander Riker falls in love with an alien from a genderless world, or Dr. Crusher falls in love with a male alien who (thanks the symbiotic organism living inside it, naturally) changes bodies to a female, who Crusher then spurns."

But out and proud?

Never happen!

That was one place the Starship didn't dare to Enterprise.

But nowadays, of course, Glee has made every single character gay, so it all evens out.

Is that what they meant by "boldly going where no man has gone before"?

...however many of its staunchest fans ARE gay. Most peculiar, captain.

What about that Dax character from DS9? There were some implications that she lezzed it up with past lovers when she changed genders from a male symbiant to a female one. Also, I have watched that Dr. Crusher falls with the symbiant episode like 200 times. You should be ashamed, Braga. The '90s were rough. You couldn't throw a baby dyke a bone?

Well, he can rest easier knowing that there were no out gays in Star Wars, Spider Man, and Superman either.
