...And that such people need to stay cloaked in privacy in order to do their jobs...

..why aren't you screaming bloody murder over this item?

Oh, because it's straight, right?

I'd love to take credit for that, but no, it's not me.

Michael:

Are you the same/relative of, the Michael Musto credited as screenwriter and exec producer of Jayne Mansfield's film, "Single Room Furnished"? We saw it last night. You must have been a teenager in '68 if YOU were the writer/ep??!!

It's a disgrace the way these straight people flaunt their sexuality all in everyone's face!

I think that was his point.

People like Kathy say, "He can't come out because he'\d get assaulted overseas."

And he got assaulted overseas anyway.

Yes, as Kathy Griffin has pointed out, the current, semi closet rationale is not protecting [sic] the US television audience or the Anderson Cooper brand. Rather there is an issue of physical safety for him when he's in the Second or Third World.

We can't have Anderson getting assaulted overseas....

And yet AC was just roughed up in Cairo yesterday.

Please! I am responding specifically to arguments I got saying "I don't care about an anchor's private life, no matter what their sexuality" And "They can't do their job if they become the story."But no one complained about this item. No one said "I don't care" or "They can't do their job now" (and both are listed as anchors on google). The item was not approved by them. It has to do with what they told friends. SImilarly, there was a big item yesterday about Katie Couric's love life, also not approved by her. She has become the story many times, but continues to do her job. This is fine--and it should be OK with gay personalities. As for hurting someone's career, I've repeatedly pointed out that there are out hosts, commentators, whatever, and they manage to overcome the naysayers. Of course if you say "there's an out host," then they say "but there's not an out blah blah." There's always a but. Before Neil Patrick Harris came out, people said "There'll never be a major, out TV actor playing a straight lead." Keep saying your buts.

The fact that no one is asking if they can continue to do their job just proves my point. They are commentators. One sits behind a desk reading off a teleprompter and the other ventures nowhere more dangerous than the Republican caucus. Not at all the same thing as someone who could find himself embedded in the Middle East is it? Your idea that anyone and everyone should be outer is myopic.

your analogy doesn't make any sense. they weren't outed, they made an announcement. everyone has the right to make an announcement. also, again, they are commentators. commentators, like gossip columnists, aren't embedded in the middle east in places where it would be perfectly legal to imprison (even kill) them for being gay. does being heterosexual and married put either of these commentators in any danger? make them lose accessibility? in any way hinder their ability to do their job?

how is this analogy supposed to work again? you can make money outing people all you want. but you can't make it interesting to people who don't care.

Let me explain this particular breakdown, lol. Just the other day people were shrieking at me that Anderson can't possibly come out or be outed because then he can't do his job seriously and it's nobody's business. I responded that it's only when it's gay that someone objects or screams 'I don't care'. Sure enough, today two married anchors who are out about their marriage were written up as far as their family and not ONE person complained that it was an invasion or they can't do their jobs now that they've become the story. Ta-da!

Yeah, they're TWO anchors who are out about their love lives! And even their children! I guess it's possible.
