Kristin Chenoweth Coming Back to Broadway

Living out in the boondocks at the time, 2075 miles from Broadway, I bought the Original Cast Album just for the artwork. But I never could figure out the plot based on the songs and synopsis! So I'll have to take everyone's word that this was a funny musical comedy at one time.

Meh. Would rather see Hugh as Valjean.

Better this than another "Promises, Promises."

PS: The musical is based on the same play the classic Carole Lombard film "Twentieth Century" is based on. It's a screwball comedy about a producer and a screen star playing cat and mouse on a zany train trip. The 1978 musical (score by Comden/Green/Coleman) starred John Cullum, Kevin Kline, Madeline Kahn (who left and was replaced by Judy Kaye), and Imogene Coca. It was glitzy, sophisticated fun--a super night of theater.

The 2004 revival of the un-musical version starred Anne Heche and Alec Baldwin and was not quite as joyous.

But the female lead, Lily Garland, sounds to me like a really good part for Chenoweth.
