Carrie Prejean Update! Another Lawsuit!

Remember the Miss USA runner-up Carrie Prejean, who Bible thumped her way to an anti-gay marriage stance, which seemed strange considering she had gotten biblical with herself for various photos and videos that seemed extremely unholy when they surfaced for the frothing masses?

Carrie was promptly deprived of her Miss California crown, which was followed by a mess of juicy lawsuits and countersuits.

Well, outside Sister Act last night, a guy approached me and said,

"Hi, Michael, I'm Keith Lewis from the Miss California USA pageant."

"Oh, you're the one who ripped the crown off Carrie," I noted, grinning. "Congrats!"

"Well, now we're being sued by NOM," he informed me, meaning the National Organization for Marriage group that Carrie had been a spokesperson for.

The suit has something to do with NOM accusing the pageant of releasing damaging (i.e. true) info about Carrie, as opposed to the press having dug it up by itself.

"Huh?" I screeched. "NOM is suing you? But NOM fired Carrie too!"

"Well" said Lewis, "nowadays people can do just about anything."

Except run for beauty queen with any kind of consistent behavioral attitudes!

What standing does NOM have in this? How were they damaged? Seems like a real reach.

If I'm not mistaken, Perez changed his MO when the whole 'It Gets Better' campaign took off. Realizing he himself was a bully, he decided to clean up his act.Good for him.

Pejean? Will this get Trump involved? He's pro-gay, anti-gay. He's become the King of the FlipFlop. Any media attention that will show how unstable he is, is ok with me.

Why doesn't Carrie Prejean opposite marry Joe the Plumber? He seems like such a nice, young man.

As for NOM, the only thing worse that could happen to them after this spate of news is that Bryan Fischer would come out of the closet. Unfortunately, such an event would be, at best, awkward for the glbt community.

God, she is such old news ... and I am only the one who thinks she LOOKS old too? She is wearing the tiara so i assume the pic is from 2009 (though would not shock me if she still puts on the tiara and sash to pose and feed her huge ego)? That is a HARD looking 22 ... could easily be 35 IMO

NOM must be in dire straights (pun intended). Since Louis Marinelli defected and is singing like a canary on internal matters and since they are being investigated in 4 States for breaking campaign finance laws, they must be up to their ears in having to defend their discriminatory existence.

I hope the pageant stands up and breaks the back of NOM. I would like to bankrupt the leaders of the NOM. Great big fuck you to it's disgusting anti-gay, Christian bigot supporters, and of course I wish chronic pain, misery, and loneliness of it's leaders.

Poor Carrie. The dork is desperate for attention these days. She should brush up on her stripper pole dancing.

Poor, poor Perez. Finally, the public sees through his crap.

It's interesting to see what has transpired since then. Perez Hilton (who asked her the question about gay marriage) has seen his hits go down significantly. Where he used to get 100 comments per item, he now gets 3. On the other hand, the issue of gay marriage continues to gain traction and momentum. From today's news:

Another American poll suggests that just over half of voters support marriage equality.

The CNN poll found that 51 per cent of the 824 adults surveyed said gay couples should be allowed to wed.

Among those under 50, support levels rose to 60 per cent.

CNN polls in 2008 and 2009 found that just 44 per cent of those surveyed supported gay marriage.

Along with his "we need to tax the tax/don't tax the rich."

I don't get the sense that Carrie Prejean herself has anything to do with the reported new lawsuit.

I think NOM is very foolish to be bringing up Carrie Prejean, again, at all, in any context. She was a PR disaster for them, and putting her back in the news, revisiting all the exposed nipple photos and masturbation videos and dishonesty and such is not going to help NOM's cause.

Perhaps right about now they are reflexively flailing about looking for scapegoats -- rationality be damned -- as they've been barraged recently with three pieces of hugely bad news:

1. Louis Marinelli's defection. Unbelievably bad for them. And he's "talking," too. Singing like a bird. The bad news for NOM will continue here with each of his forthcoming blog entries.

2. The polls showing the country has now, as expected, flipped relative to a majority supporting marriage equality. Even though civil rights should not be a matter of majority rule, NOM nonetheless can no longer site majority opinion, or try to claim the perspective of "the people" is being "silenced."

3. The prospects of the Prop 8 trial video being released. NOM *should* be extremely concerned about that.

Oh, can I add an honorary mention?: Marc Mutty in Maine admitting to use of deceptive tactics to undo SSM in that state.

And just the general momentum, including Laura Bush, a couple McCains, and even kind of Glenn Beck. It wouldn't shock me if NOM closes shop within about 18 months.

It's all very satisfying to see the bad guys gradually and cumulatively reap the consequences of being the bad guys.

Perez has lost much of his nastiness, for better or worse. Seems to be very "in" with the industry, more of a promoter/celebrity now.

According to Nate Silver of 538 blog fame (who correctly predicted 49 of the 50 states in the 2008 Presidential election and all 35 senate races in 2010), those who oppose gay marriage are clearly in the minority, with only one poll in the last nine over the last two years (and that was in 2009) showing a majority who opposed same sex marriage.
