Chris Brown vs. Charlie Sheen: Who's Getting the Worse Rap?

Categories: Chris Brown

chris-brownbag1.jpg
Among unsavory pop stars, both Chris Brown and Charlie Sheen have been known to be abusive to women.

But on her Sirius radio show, Rosie O'Donnell said she feels Brown is getting a worse rap than most in a similar situation.

Said Rosie, "I just don't know why this kid seems to be held to a different standard than anyone else."

Rosie's producer brought up bigotry, and Rosie countered, "I totally think there is, and I also think it's why he felt he was safer with Robin Roberts."

I'd normally agree -- racism still runs deep in this society -- but can you honestly say Charlie is getting a good rap??

Does anyone feel he's gotten what you'd call positive press???

Yes, I saw a TV interview that was a little too ass-kissy, but generally, his name provokes nothing but smirks and spewing sounds from the media.

And while Charlie is out of a job, Chris's album is currently number one and he was just on a ratings-smash episode of Dancing With the Stars!

Charlie, meanwhile, is telling booing customers, "Well, I've already got your $80!"

It is most definitely a slanted curve here. Charlie gets celebrated and fools tuning in to see this idiots drug and booze fueled rants and paying to see him trash everyone he has ever known. But Chris tries to move on and all he gets is " LEST TALK ABOUT 2009 AND RIHANNA" uuuuh when was the last time anyone one kept rubbing in your faces the ugly things from your past as if they took place two hours ago? No one does that. But because he is Chris Brown and he is black... Yeah he is held to a different standard! Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn both are habitual wife beaters. and You all will break your necks just to see Charlie's show or Sean's next movie. But its OK because their wives are to blame and not these OLD grown men! People get a clue! Rihanna moved on, forgave Chris and now so should everyone else... unless you all are willing to hole ALL of Hollywood and the industry accountable for ALL their acts of violence toward women and children... YEAH thats what I thought.. you all just want to turn a blind eye to them.. RIGHT?

Neither of these men were punished as severly as they should have been or would have been if they weren't famous millionaires. I have worked in law enforcement most of my life so I have some knowledge on the subject.

Chris had to disappear for 2 tears after one incident. Charlie kept his job after repeated abuse incidents for years and was only fired when he ripped CNS and the producer if his show.

Whether he likes it or not, what CB did to Rihanna in a car that night will always be part of his publicity portfolio. Just like Charlie Sheen will have to answer for everything he's doing now if he doesn't completely self-destruct and drive himself out of show business. You can't just say, "Well, so and so got away with it, so why are they picking on me." Going on her feelings, Rosie seems to think it's a racial thing. Rosie's wrong.

here is what i think michael musto

yes chris brown and rhianna had a violent relationshipsadly many children who are raised in violent homes as chris and rhianna were grow up to replicate the pain they have lived. they had a fight in the car both had woundsrhiannas blacked eyeswollen sad face was heartbreaking to see for every woman every child that has ever been hit

he hit her chris brown turned himself in he released a statement -

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired." Brown released a two-minute video on his official YouTube page apologizing to fans and Rihanna for the domestic altercation, expressing the incident as his "deepest regret" and saying that he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna and "accepts full responsibility"

he didi all that was expected of him he was commended by the judge

he spoke to larry king for an hourwith his mother spoke of the pain and past the how and the now he eventually gave robin roberts an in depth 20/20 interviewwhere he spoke all about the entire rhianna abuse incident

is it unreasonable of chris to assume that he could now2 years later release his cd without having to focus on that day

i assume he trusted robinshow biz trust - u think u r on the same side be careful

- having interviewed celebrities for 6 years - that a segment producer told the publicist there would be one mention maybe - but then it was ALL about the cd - FAME

do u think chris was nervous? he looked nervous to me? he looked like a teenagerdo u think he felt safelive on tv? do u think he was prepared to once again talk in depth about rhianna?

so they roll the tape and there it is in the intro and they r back live first ? out - robin asks a long winded one about the restraining order...and then goes on to bring it up 6 more times.

and he sat hunched over - with new white hairand i wanted to hug him like his mom did - i bet

shame yes chris brown has shame we all do

me - u - chris and robin

he was then able to perform his song - which he didhe went back to the dressing room - and cursed and yelled and threw some furniture arounda chair hit a window - it broke - no one was hurthe took off his shirt - and walked away from the studio

my point maybe not well said on the radio

yes there r strands of racism running thru hereof young black men seen nightly in handcuffs on the local news of the thug/angel paradigm tupac lived

ji never met chiris brown i never knew his musici bought his cd last week i bought rhiannas too

this is reality tv

i have no desire to b right this is only how i feel

maybe angry that robin did not have his back but perhaps expects me to have had hers point iswe r all brown

chris or jackson

compassion - understanding - the only goal

Thank you Rosie! you hit the nail right on the head! Chris or Michael... They are both treated unfairly in the media... with out apologies to either from the press. I do not believe Robim\n Roberts will ever own up to what we all saw on that interview! The look of embarrassment on Chris's face was very evident.. Its time to move on... Really and FAME is an awesome CD!!!

That lady Ruth who called in your show musta been a volunteer at that shelter because no good shelter woulda taken someone with her views. The fact that she was exasperated talking about how women go back to their abusers mean she don't know nothing about abuse.

What you need to understand is that it's okay for people to not like Chris Brown for what he did, just as it is okay for you to not like Woody Allen. Where is your compassion for him? On your radio show, you and Janette self righteously say that we live in a time where people are more prone to cast judgment and vilify others. It's offensive to tell people how they should feel. You want to forgive him, buy his albums, watch his movies, DO that. But don't act like you're better than others for it, because you're not. Every single person on earth judges people and there's nothing wrong with that. Judging is what builds a person's character. I judge Klan members. I would never be friends with a Klan member because their views are so completely opposite from mine and they hurt other people. It's when you can't properly express your judgment or it's baseless judgment that there is a problem. Not financially supporting Chris Brown doesn't equal vilifying him.

The problem with your compassion is when you extend it to an abuser and leave out the victim they abused-and you do that frequently-It's like a slap in the face. Rihannas' photos were everywhere but worse than that is how people made a joke of them, drawing on them and writing despicable things. Millions of people called her out then, and now again, saying she deserved it- that she was too jealous, that her 100 lb body attacked him first, that she gave him an std, all that and more as a way to rationalize irrational and destructive behavior. That is the culture we live in and you help perpetuate when you don't mention the victim, when you use the victim to rationalize abuse. Do you think Chris brown or his mother are somehow partially responsible for the abuse they endured? Would you ask if Brown's mother was into s&m or if Brown talked back too much as a child? Domestic violence is an important issue and as a public figure you have a responsibility in how your message is interpreted. And there is no racism here, that's just detracting from the real issue. How is it racist that Brown beat Rihanna and got violent on the GMA set?

Chris Brown is a convicted felon who is on probation...he has not completed his sentence...that is reality. Any other convicted felon on probation for anger issues who destroyed private property because someone dared asked about his last probation hearing in February (not two years ago), would have appeared before a judge by now. Don't play a card (racism in this case) that you don't have in your deck. Like every other convicted felon, who fills out a job application, he will have to answer the question of why he was convicted of a crime for the rest of his life...he needs to grow up and learn how to deal with it. Unlike every other convicted felon on probation, he has "people"-a manager, a lawyer, an agent, a publicist (at least he did at the time) to help him come up with a good answer for that lifelong question. Stop enabling him, let him be the man he claims to be. That's understanding, that's compassion. Finding excuses for folks is not compassion...it's enabling a young man who believes the world owes him something-well, if they really treated like every other Black man (or convicted woman beater on probation)-he would have gone to jail for the initial crime. He certainly would have returned for his outburst and would be paying restitution for the property damage...and finally he would offer a real apology to everyone at ABC News, to include Ms. Roberts for keeping him out of jail

You are absolutely correct. I thought that it s possible you are a Probation Officer.

I can't seem to reply under you Crown but she probably was "stupid" enough not to press charges. Because like most women who are beaten she likely felt shame in thinking she was responsible for her beating.

CrownHtsAlum
CrownHtsAlum

Was she stupid enough (Sheen's wife) NOT to press charges (much like ABC News did with Mr. Brown)? Folks only "pay" for what they are held accountable for-if you or I yelled, cursed and broke a window at ABC, would folks be so "compassionate and understanding"?

When somebody is famous for being mostly ick, then when they fall people love to make fun of them. Is anybody saying either one is any good at...anything? Selling his albums is like Charlie being highest paid actor on tv. The masses are asses.

As you point out, Chris not only still has a job, but he's bigger than ever thanks to all his antics. It's sick.
