This is an exclusive, folks.

The people that control the Academy Awards have decided that next year they will give a special Oscar to Madonna!

For her screen work!

A memo that was just leaked to me cites Madonna's "brash charm and deft, chameleon-like skill, as evidenced by her performances in such diverse films as Who's That Girl?, Body of Evidence, Dangerous Game, The Next Best Thing, and Swept Away.

"Despite her critics -- and she will always have some -- Madonna has clearly elevated the art of screen acting thanks to her deep-seated talent and consistently exciting choices.

"Whether in screwball comedies, courtroom potboilers, or flashy musicals, Madonna has always been a beacon of both spontaneity and profundity, leaving her indelible mark on the medium for all time.

"As a result of her continuing achievement, she will be rewarded next February."

Just kidding. April Fool's!

Madge, if she ever does get an Oscar, will win for a supporting role.

Her new movie is getting positive buzz and it's only in post production, not even edited yet??? Yes, we saw the director of her "Rain" video going to bat for her. That doesn't exactly spell special Oscar, now, does it?

The buzz has been better than that. Liz Smith, who's seen a cut, suggests it'll blow people away. It got a standing ovation at its distribution showing. All of the cast and crew are saying only positive things. And I guess we'll just have to see. But the decision by the distributers to release it in December is reason enough to speculate that there is something about the movie that might win Oscar consideration. (Even if its just William Orbit's score.)

Liz Smith????? Who press releases everything!!!

The cast and crew like their own movie????

This is hilarious.

Gulliver's Travels opened in December too.

The reality is that Madonna will, indeed, get a special Oscar... eventually. There will be enough successes to spin her worthiness:

Desperately Seeking SusanDick TracyTruth or DareA League of Their OwnEvita

And then they will mention the work she did with the likes of:

Uli EdelQuentin TarantinoWoody Allen

And then they will talk about the music she's provided to movies

(Too much to list.)

And then they will talk about any direction and production successes (of which we should expect a few down the road).

They can talk about the directors she's "discovered." (David Fincher comes to mind, but there were more.) And the movies that wouldn't have happened without her. (Frida comes to mind.)

And when she's one of only a few living legends a few decades down the road, this output alone will be enough to put together a five minute vignette celebrating her... well... celebrity.

Don't think they won't do it. It just won't happen next February. Of course, her new movie is getting nothing but positive buzz, so maybe she'll get a REAL Oscar. :)

The scary thing is that its not far from the truth, except that they'd probably pick some much more (ahem) "contemporary" actress in desperate hope of getting the kidz to watch.

She was fun in "Desperately Seeking Susan".

Actually, I was sure you were going to say that they were giving her the Thalberg Humanitarian Award. For, you know, adopting all those dark-skinned infants and what not.

You're Michael Musto, of New York City? Well, remember when you decided to "experiment" back in 1978? I came along 9 months later, and Mama left a note in her lockbox naming you as my Daddy. Daddy, I've been down on my luck lately, and was wondering if I could move in with you? Plus the old lady and our four kids. I just need some money to help out while I look for a job. We followed you home the other night and know where to go now. See you later, Daddy!

And in related news, the Tony Awards Committee has announced a Special Tony will be given to Madonna for her role in the original production of "Speed the Plow," for "starting the trend of bringing bad actors from Hollywood to the Broadway stage to help boost ticket sales."

I remember the late, great Stewart Klein's review of Madonna's acting in "Who's that Girl." He said, "Madonna's performance is.....'Horrifying'...." Gawd I loved that guy.

I enjoyed Madonna in 'Evita.' She should have received an Oscar for making all those costume changes in one movie.

In this movie she is also with Antonia Banderas. But it's so old one!!!! Perhaps I'll try to download it from http://www.torrentoff.com to watch once again! Great movie! And it's woth seeing only because of Madonna and costume changes, I agree!

Well, I saw it and I don't agree.

I'm sorry but her performance in "Dangerous Game" went above and beyond expectations of Madonna's acting abilities. It was real, professional acting, but sadly most people never saw that film.
