It's Raining Martha Wash!
Interviewing vocal powerhouse Martha Wash at Barracuda last night, I asked her how it feels to sing "It's Raining Men" as just one Weather Girl.
(The other one, Izora Armstead, sadly died in 2004.)
Wash said it was a little odd at first, but she eventually got used to it.
And why not, I say? Even Cher stopped looking over to Sonny after a while.
I also wanted to know the ramifications of Martha successfully suing C&C Music Factory in 1990 for using her voice on records, yet putting some skinny little thing in the video instead.
Can singers today collect cash if the same horrid act of identity replacement happens to them?
"If they have a good lawyer," she advised, wisely.
After Martha belted her new ballad, "I've Got You," and proved she doesn't need anyone else, I got to chat with all the men it was raining there that night -- like nouveau club kid AK-47, who had just turned 21.
Will he not be thrown out of clubs anymore?
"Not for that," AK replied with a half smile.
Well ... get a good lawyer.
