Roger Ebert Vs. Charlie Sheen!

Categories: Charlie Sheen

This is a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

A ferocious showdown between a highly respected critic and a spiraling TV star.

See, I just got this Tweet from esteemed film critic Roger Ebert:

"Charlie Sheen made fun of my cancer because I dissed him in Wall Street?

"Dude, you ain't seen me in my attack mode."

Illin' Charlie mocked someone else's illness?

Gross.

I'm on Team Roger for this one.

Go for tiger's blood, Rog.

I'm no enemy of Sheen (or particular fan of Ebert), but on a purely intellectual level, ol' Charlie just committed Twittering suicide.

In corner one, we have a substance abuser who has systematically driven away just about anyone who ever gave a hoot about his sorry posterior (not to mention driving a highly lucrative show into the ground for very obtuse reasons). You see, not everyone in "Two and a Half Men" earned a million bucks an episode. Some were blue-collared, union folk who can now thank Charlie for another commonality: unemployment.

And in the other corner, wearing stylish chenille personally tailored to hide the gaping hole in his jaw thanks to a few too many surgeries, we have Roger Ebert.

This is a man unafraid of writing what he feels, and before throat cancer silenced his voice forever, he no doubt hurt many a privileged feeling with his no-nonsense approach to reviewing: thumbs up, thumbs down. It's great! It stinks!

And yet...

The essence of a man may not be entirely tied to their profession. I've read many pieces by Ebert since his illness and I can tell you two things: first, there can be no greater difference in human being than he and I. He's a liberal Democrat, I'm a (fiscally) conservative Republican. He's Proust. I'm Stephen King.

But I believe he's a good man who has had some very rough times...none of his own making. And I think it's all made him stronger. I may not have started out a Roger Ebert fan, but I respect strength. And I respect him.

But let's revisit that other corner for a moment. You know...the one with the sad sap who suffers from very rough times...most ALL of which are his own making. And despite his bravado (and shameless marketing of his own stupidity) I think it's all made him...smaller somehow.

Knock a guy whose fighting cancer because he didn't like your movie, Charlie? How...adolescent of you.

You know what, Sheen? Drop the gloves and leave the ring. That guy with cancer just kicked your ass...and never raised a glove.

Roger isn't any better than Charlie Sheen, he just made fun of Ryan Dunn's death...

He didn't make fun, he stated a fact.  People should not let drunks drive.  Dunn took out his friend by being stupid and could have killed others if he had hit another car or ever worse a pile up.  Although the reports could be wrong, he supposedly was drinking a lot before the accident and was driving 110 mph.  You don't see anything wrong with that?????

Two men are dead! It's no time to be making rude comments about his physical state at the time. They haven't even released whether or not it was alcohol related. Maybe Ebert is having a transfer of feelings...putting the feelings of anger from Sheen's comment onto Dunn by making his rude comment.

KSham, We do know it was alcohol related -- you seem pretty invested that it not be -- why the pretense? Ebert was using the facts to be scathing -- NOT rude -- about the fact that a stupid act was consciously chosen and could have easily been prevented.

What can the father really do? Charlie is 50 years old!

Who knew Sheen could sink even lower? Why isn't his family getting him some help?

I guess he meant wall Street II? Charlie just had a cameo, didn't he? Still, it was creepy. Go, Roger.

Charlie Sheen should be ashamed especially since he's battling an illness himself (addiction).
