Sean Penn as an Aging Goth Rocker! You'll Die!

Categories: Film

Two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn has played a killer, a gay, and a psycho -- all onscreen, that is.

And now he's stretching his muscles by donning some very vivid makeup and hair design (not to mention wrist jewelry) to play an aging Goth rocker in a movie called This Must Be the Place.

The film is playing at the Cannes festival, but you don't have to pull out your tongue piercing, pack your Vuitton luggage, and fly all the way there, seeing as I've generously provided the above eye-popping photo.

You like? Will Oscar make three?

Will Robin suddenly be desperate to have him back?

And even Madonna?

I trust him. It might not be up there with Hurlyburly but it will be worth seeing.

It looks like a crime all right.

From the picture, I was assuming (always a mistake) that this was a comedy and then I googled it and it's a crime drama.

I didn't know Bea Arthur's son played guitar.

Please, that's Olympia Dukakis singing a Joan Baez song.

For an aging goth rocker, the wrong style guitar, it's too folksy, seems to be singing "Kum bay ya, my Lord, kum bay ya."

He should be strumming on a 'Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV bass guitar,' the one with classic Thunderbird lines executed on a mahogany body and 34"- scale length hard maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and Gothic inlay at the 12th fret. The pickguard should be dressed up with a Celtic cross with black-on-black hardware and finish giving it a decidedly dark demeanor providing appropriate growl.

And whoever styled him...he doesn't look very goth. Not even elder goth. That's why I thought it was a comedy. His look is more hair metal.

Penn looks like Olympia Dukakis as Anna Madrigal having a bad hair day on the "Tales of the City" set.
