I worked at the club and i know the real truth and none of this is the facts the facts are when the reopeners took over the club ,they were miss lead by Don in oct they got a back rent bill of over 300k . I have the bill !!!also in nov bmi frooze the bank account for 8k . There was a loan taken out that was for 27k the beer company was owed 14k The new york press frooze the account for 7k in jan and a credit card in the corp's name that was never paid all these depts were well before the reopeners took over so these are all facts with proof and record's of every account so before you all come up with our conspiracy theories know what the real truth is .Don was also on salery for 1k a week .

the club had problems for years to come.. don trusted these guys to help bail his bar out. they brought in large crowds but promoted nothing.. raising drinks prices and adding more security when the only difference in the club was the paintings on the wall?

the fact that people worked their and didn't get paid? why would people work for free during this economy. giving away stuff for free to gain an investor interest was ridiculous. From how it sounds like.. the re-openers prb knew what they were doing and prob figured their was an offer for the property and used the money to get dons and got paid when the time was right.

Pstr20 sounds like they have it right. Don knew how to run a club as a BUSINESS (without screwing people!) & everybody was happy to pay under his reign. We all know the business model of the other type of "promoter"...give it all away to VIPs, make a "scene", pull out as much cash as you can, bring in new investors & get out before everything collapses. I don't know that that happened here but it's a familiar story & I wouldn't be surprised. Don deserved much better.

How about having had a conversation with Don a week before he passed in which he told me "Re-Openers" could not make money to save their lives. He said they filled the place with a crowd that didn't pay for anything and gave away the bar. He was not happy. Not only did Don, countless DJs, door people, security and hosts not get paid, the Re-Openers couldn't didn't make a dime for themselves either. They are not business men, they are opportunists who take other people's money to open money-losing ventures while popularizing themselves by giving away everything to "VIPs" in order to raise their own profiles. Sick. Sad.

I'll agree with this. I went to see a friends show there and had nothing but trouble from the people at the door to the bar. I'm glad to see them out of business.
