In the current Broadway revival of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart, Ellen Barkin is doing so well she's gotten a Tony nomination and a theater full of used Kleenexes every night.

Click here for my new column, in which Ellen tells me about this staggering production, as well as her experiences with film stardom and with being what some call "unconventionally pretty."

Conventionally speaking, she's a gem.

Well, if you read the column that's linked, there's your answer.

I've had the "plague" for over 25 years, and was always curious about this play.  I kept waiting for the movie to be made, but it seems that Barbra was sittin' on the project for too long.  Is this staging of the play good enough for me to get my flat ass on a train into the city to see?  It certainly has an interesting cast.

Well, she does it at a high pitch but she's pretty strong.

Good interview.  But she was the weakest actor in "The Normal Heart." The night I attended, she shouted most of her performance.

I wasn't familiar with her movies (except Big Easy), so was pleasantly surprised to see the performance she gives in Normal Heart. A great night of theater.
