The Copacabana Is Reopening In July

And Barry Manilow must be wetting himself.

As a publicist reminds me:

"Many famed acts debuted at the club when it was located on E. 60th St., notably Martin and Lewis, and it was used as a location for many great films, including Goodfellas, Raging Bull, and Tootsie.

"After thriving on W. 34th St. by the Hudson River only to have the city exert its privilege of Eminent Domain to expand the 7 subway line, the Copa is reopening in the former, cavernous China Club space on 8th Ave. and W. 47th St.

"In a city now dominated by teeny tiny effete lounges, this new space will have the true allure of a nightclub/disco, one of very few in Manhattan."

So the Copa is coming back in July! Except it's the China Club!

Are you getting your festive headdress together?

Update: Party queen Susanne Bartsch tells me that she will be doing events at this Copa, which makes perfect sense. She did fab monthly ones at the last Copa!

i am happy to have had luncheoned in the famous copacabana in it´s original location on E 60th street. still to this day i can remember: that was the best and the only baked potato that i have ever tasted and enjoyed in my life. i can´t stand (baked) potatoes. yuck!

Is this the same place my parents went to in 1962 on their honeymoon?
