An "Accurately Jewish Looking" Jesus

17 REMBRANDT YOUNG JEW AS CHRIST.jpg

Jesus has traditionally been represented as a sort of doe-eyed Abercrombie & Fitch model, but it turns out Rembrandt had a different idea.

An upcoming exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art called "Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus" will show the Dutch artist striving for a more historical perspective.

As a curator told us at a Lotos Club luncheon the other day, Rembrandt's representations of Jesus are "very human, accurately Jewish-looking, and full of power."

Discuss.

But first, let me tell you that the museum's current exhibit of Italian designer Roberto Capucci's elaborate work is eye-poppingly good, filled with outfits made with such blazing imagination and daring geometry I'm ashamed I'd never heard of him.

So take a trip and check it out.

No matter what you look like, it's just a hop, skip, and a Peter Pan bus away.

If there is such a thing as Jesus, since he WAS Jewish, then Christians should be Jews. It's only right. You're all a bit confused, I'd say.

Since the sign on His crucifix translated to King of The Jews, you would be correct.

A year or so ago Newsweek or Time (?) had a cover with a conceptual interpretation derived after discussions with historians, anthropologist and biblical scholars. One of the quotes was if you want an idea of what Jesus looked like ride a cab in Tel Aviv or NYC with a late twenty or early thirty yea old cabbie. It think Jesus's likeness has been  definitely romanticized and even artistically skewed to resemble the patron over the years. FWIW...

If that's a Yiddisha punim . . . then Rembrandt's model must have been Syrian.

This is what I call, An "Accurately Jewish Looking" punim:

But Micheal is a Goy!

Yeah, I'm not sure how accurate that would be since I'm not Jewish.

Joy Behar has it going on also. People stop Joy in the street thinking she's Bette Midler. I know you're both Italian but . . . Let's just classify it as Mediterranean looks (with the possibility that the milkman in Brooklyn Circa -1940s-50s was a real Jewish Casanova).

Please take down these graven images. So offensive to Christians.

To us he's Jesus of Nazareth or more commonly referred to as Jesus Christ or simply as Jesus or Christ, but here's a little known fact, he was a very short, swarthy man and the 'YEHOSHUA COMPLEX,' once attributed to him, has been lost in time.

Today we refer to it as the 'Napoleon complex,' named after French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the term describing an alleged type of inferiority complex which is said to affect some people, especially men, who are short in stature and who are driven by this perceived handicap to overcompensate in other aspects of their lives.

“for God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten Son"... indeed!!!

I'd rather think of Jesus as the super hot, blue eyed Jeffrey Hunter in "King of Kings:.

Because we know if he was anything Jesus Christ of Nazareth was an Aryan, right?

It probably IS accurate--if Jesus existed, that is.
