Evidence That Elaine Stritch Is A Kook

Next up I'll be serving up evidence that the sky is blue, but first let me deal with this issue:

Broadway veteran Elaine Stritch is known to be a little nutty, cute, quirky, loud, and sometimes obstreperous.

Well, at vintage costume warehouses, people sometimes come across interesting bits of visual gossip, occasionally about Elaine.

Just recently, such a place unearthed a note referring to our dear beloved Stritchy.

It was an invoice stating that Elaine's fitting for A Little Night Music had to be rescheduled because she was "being uncooperative."

"That's so very Stritchy of her," said drag star Vodka Stinger when she heard about this.

She's got me in Stritches!

But while I'm laughing my ass off, I'm always a little bit afraid of her!

In separate Broadway star/vintage news, Liza Minnelli just sold off some old lamps.

Were they the same ones the icky David Gest once accused her of throwing?

If so, I hope she got a bundle for them.

A mutual friend of mine and Ms. Stritch was going through the awful final stages of cancer a few years ago.  She regularly showed up to cheer him, always bringing a basket of freshly-baked muffins.  She was an absolute doll and never failed to lift our friend's spirits.  Call her whatever you want, but she showed total class and sincerity...and she's aces in my book.

Elaine Stritch isa little ( a lot) kooky but when you see her onstage she is genius.

Oh, lord, Stritchy. Where to begin... A thousand years ago I was involved in a voice casting/audition session for the Disney film  "The Little Mermaid." Ms. Stritch came in to read for Ursula. She scanned the script fleetingly, threw it across the floor of the recording studio, and declared: "Okay, I know what I'm gonna do..." The casting director advised her that if she strayed too far from the script she would basically void the audition. I'll let readers imagine her response -- and her reading! Indelible! Notice she didn''t get the role.

My former boss is good friends with her but I never actually got the chance to meet her because she didn't attend the show that was put on while I was interning. She did attend the one that's going on now though. She sounds like fun to me!

Stritch can be so charming--WHEN SHE WANTS TO BE.

Stritch is national treasure. I'd be happy if her face were added to Mount Rushmore!

they originally wrote that role for Divine before he passed (he was also supposed to do Cry Baby in the role eventually played by Polly Bergen). I know that they also considered Bea Arthur, Strichy, and Joanna Lumley (Patsy dahling) before going w/ Pat Carroll.

Does someone have the option to Shut up! Figuratively?

mjm, I'm a huge fan of Elaine Stritch, so please don't misunderstand me, but as far as the experience I had with the New York casting of that film, and considering the reading she gave that day, I don't think she was ever really under consideration.
