And that night is tonight!

At the Laurie Beechman Theatre at 9:30, Michael Schulman and Rachel Shukert are presenting "You Like Me: An Evening of Classic Acceptance Speeches," with an all-star cast of people serving lots and lots of gratitude.

But I'll be reciting a classic anti-acceptance speech.

The 1996 one when Julie Andrews announced that since she was the only Tony nominee for Victor/Victoria, she'd have to decline it in protest.

"I have searched my conscience and my heart," said Julie, "and I find that sadly I cannot accept this nomination, and I prefer instead to stand with the egregiously overlooked."

Having seen the wan stage adaptation of the movie, I felt what she should have said was, "You nominated me? I can't believe it! The show pretty much sucks. Gosh, thank you!"
