Last night at the Gansevoort Park Avenue, Amanda's Penthouse debuted as a weekly bash, hosted by Joey Israel and Kenny Kenny and featuring world famous transsexual entertainer Amanda Lepore.

The party attracted a colorful mix of New York's zaniest.

But there's one less promoter involved now.

The fabulash Kenny was pissed when the club said at one point in the evening that they'd reopen the roof so everyone could go up there, spread out, and have fun alfresco. And they didn't!

Kenny feels that if they'd go back on their word about that, anything could happen.

"It's better to make a clean break," he told me.

But Kenny did end up on a roof.

He told me was going off to Susanne Bartsch's weekly bash at Le Bain.

Kenny Kenny turns it out every where he goes! It makes him a bitch for standing behind his word? He publicly announced that the roof was about to be opened and the venue lied. I would have quit too! And if standing up for what is right makes kenny Kenny Kenny a bitch, then I'm a bitch too! Work it out Kenny Kenny, you are major major!

“Susanne, why is it that Kenny Kenny and Amanda Lepore are having such a similar party on the exact night as yours,” I asked. Her reply was one of either utmost non-interest or just plain eluding my question: “I don’t know. Ask Kenny.” After further informing her that I had already she again gave me a similar reply. “I just wish us all luck.” And with that she darted away.http://scallywagandvagabond.com/2011/...

I have such great memories of Kenny K from back in the day when clubs were fun, KK is still fierce and I'm glad he is still around.  I really miss those days! It's no fun being old (46) and looking it but I'll always have the memories!

Kenny has been around the block. He has seen clubs (and hotels) come and go. He will prevail.

Nice that musto has made an almost tri-decade career out of the "club kids" but what do these people to actually be noteworthy in our society?  What do they add? How is doing drugs every weekend and partying all night long still news?

Well, I think it's obvious that the color and scene that you are thinking is a dead end, actually is the scene that alot of people parasitically bite constantly. Constantly. Because in a real sense, the New York scene is about abandon. And that abandon is very attractive to people who don't live it... or can't live it. And it's bright and colorful and hot. And completely imperfect.

Not everyone ends up in a gutter. Some people actually go on to do things that contribute. Just like in the straighter world. There are more buzzing droning personalities that don't go really further, and there are some that do. It's no less of a contribution to our society than anything else. It is an illusion to think otherwise.

Right. There was one bad egg in 1995 so that ruins all nightlife. By the same reasoning, you shouldn't celebrate black people because of OJ.

In a city that's been relentlessly gentrified and cracked down on, the nightlife keeps bubbling up against all odds, providing an escape, a catharsis, and a form of creative expression for the oppressed. Clubs are a home for kids who were bullied and abused back home but come to NYC and find there's a place for them, a family where they can dress up, act up, carry on, and create music, fashion, etc. I will always celebrate it.
