Director Zack Snyder is helming Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill as Superman, but someone's not running into a phone booth to change into a celebratory outfit about it.

According to E! Online's Marc Malkin, Private Practice star Tim Daly -- Tyne's brother, who has voiced Superman in the animated TV and movie franchises -- said:

"All these superhero movies seem exactly the same to me.

"I keep wanting to be surprised, but I'm not.

"It seems like [people] who went to college to learn to read pie charts are making these movies."

Well, obviously it's only kryptonite that can stop this trend from continuing, so let's gather some together and throw it at the screen!

And then run!

As a fan of these movies it is true.  What is worse is when people take over these franchise movies **cough** Bryan Singer's Superman Returns **cough** make their predecessors sacrosanct when the whole reason people would like to see it again is a new interpretation.  The Burton and Nolan Batman films are different and good in completely different ways.  I certainly enjoy Matthew Vaughn's take on X-Men as a spy caper than a Bryan Singer X-Men film but I know people who feel the opposite.

Kick-Ass, a rare R-rated superhero movie, was trashed as transgressive and dangerous for the character of Hit-Girl but frankly it "going there" is more than I can say for a good chunk of these kinds of movies that come out with the rinse and repeat staple of the genre.   Its box office got hurt because of the critical venom and frankly its R-rating.  I am sure if Christopher Nolan and Vaughn were allowed to do an R-rated superhero movie with a large budget they would but it is almost box-office poison.  That is why the PG-13 approved formula is used so often.  It usually works unless the movie is a complete POS (and usually its first week returns soften the blow).

Is Tim Daly the cutest or what?

Whatever he says, I agree!

Will Tim lose his job for his frankness?

Maybe he meant "pi charts," which are actually very complicated.

"It seems like [people] who went to college to learn to read pie charts are making these movies."

That could be said for 99.5% of H'wood pics...
