Wesley Snipes, "To Wong Foo ..."Hands down!!!!!

shouldn't this large subject be cut into decades or something ? JCM in Hedwig and PSH in Flawless were both beautiful and fierce and memorable.

By the way, the guy with the cigarette in the photo of Yul Brynner is...Roman Polanski!

Terrance Stamp, no question about it.

Divine is in a class all by himself. Truly amazing, even in the early stuff where Mink Stole is the Religious Whore and gives her a crucifix job in a church..Dawn Davenport is a cinematic icon. I haven't seen the Mad Christian, must now put it on my list

don't forget:-George Clooney in The Harvest ('93)-Paul Lynde in The Glass Bottom Boat ('66)-Nathan Lane in The Birdcage ('96)-Rupert Everett in St. Trinian's ('07)

best: Divine (of course), Tim Curry as Frank-N-Furter, Hedwig, Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie, everyone in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and Lemmon and Curtis in Some Like It Hot

worst: Travolta doing his Kirstie Alley impression in Hairspray, Madea, and Eddie Murphy

I just got the Burt Lancaster drag shot and made it a separate blog post above.

A really, really tough call.  I'm going to have to go with Terence Stamp.  Such a wonderful departure from pretty much every other role he has ever played.

other than that, tony curtis all the way!

ok, divine should not even be in this category. divine transcends "male actor in drag." divine is simply divine. let's please honor the deity appropriately. :j

I just added a shot of Yul Brynner doing "Mad About The Boy" in "Magic Christian." One of my faves. In this scene, he always looked like Faye Dunaway to me.

Divine!  There can be only one!

Followed by John Cameron Mitchell (just for his rant about putting bras in the dryer alone), Terrence Stamp, Dustin Hoffman as Dorothy Michaels, and Jaye Davidson.

Most Underrated: Stephen Dorff as Candy Darling in I Shot Andy Warhol.  He was a beautiful lady in that.

Divine should be in a separate category, really. As far as mainstream Hollywood goes, my vote goes to Terence Stamp.

Divine and her cha cha heels---the best eva!

Yul Brynner, singing "Mad About the Boy" in "The Magic Christian."

Jack Lemmon in "Some Like It Hot," but NOT Tony Curtis. Most of his "Josephine" voice work was dubbed by Paul Frees.

George Sanders in "The Kremlin Letter."

PS: Thanks to Christian Freedom, who got the idea for this blog when he saw Burt Lancaster in drag in "The Crimson Pirate". Alas, there's no shot of that on the internet, but if anyone has it, please share.

Jaye Davidson: The Crying Game. Perfect drag. Yes, Dustin H in Tootsie, great stuff.

Could only be Divine. Why is there even a competition?? The best, one and only.

Divine-- two heels up!!!!  To this day we are still watching all the films.  Her music shows were fun as well.  The clothing, the attitude, and let's get real, it was not just one movie.  It was a lifetime of entertainment.

Speaking of psychos, you can add Michael Caine in De Palma's 'Dressed to Kill.'

Ok, so Divine wins in a landslide (still not sure why), but my vote is for Nathan Lane as Starina in the Bird Cage.  Please! The gay ghetto drama in the first scene!? How could this not win? He was brilliant! Lane should've won an Oscar for that perfomance but the 'mo-phobic, comedy-phobic Academy wouldn't hear of it.

It has to be Divine- hands downGlen wins

Almost all of these are fab, but everyone seems to LOVE Divine.  Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon were great.  Always thought Jack Lemon was quite a hot number.  See him in The Apartment.

divine of course, and john cameron mitchell as hedwig is a very close second.

I remember as a young lad watching Lust in the Dust and my mother not having much luck in to convincing me that Divine was a man.

John Cameron Mitchell though was a better singer!

Divine Trouble

Divine!  With Tim Curry as a very close second! And then John Cameron Mitchell

Gregorama

If you watch Divine's performances (especially 'Dawn Davenport' in "Female Trouble"), you forget that you're watching a man playing a woman---he transcends sexuality and becomes a nether-sexed creature of his own making.  He was amazingly versatile and even surprisingly subtle at times.  A truly great performer who is hugely missed....hands down, it was Divine.
