Who's The Greatest Drag King Ever In Movies?

Categories: Drag Queens

Barbra Streisand, "Yentl"

I gave the guys their turn at drag validation.

Now let's go for the guys who happen to gals.

Which of these screen ladies convinced you, intrigued you, and really grabbed you in their macho getups?

By the way, in the above photo, Barbra's the one on the right.

And yes, I know this last one is too leggy to be considered full drag king. It's just a bonus.

Thanks to Christian Freedom for the blog idea.

Julie Andrews, chile! She worked it in *Victor/Victoria*: a woman who plays a man who plays a woman. Now that is FIERCE!

a few more:-Amanda Bynes in She's the Man (2006)-Jessie Matthews (the Julie Andrews of the '30s and '40s) in First a Girl (1935) [The ORIGINAL VERSION of Victor/Victoria!]-Marilyn Miller in Sunny (1930)-Vera Ellen in Three Little Words (1950)-Janet Leigh in Walking My Baby Back Home (1953)

Well, of course, if I put Dietrich and Linda Hunt, people will say "What about Hepburn?" So I put Hepburn and they say "What about Miriam Shor?" But hell, bless them all.

I always thought Hepburn looked like David Bowie in Sylvia Scarlett (doesn't show as much in the above photo).  Not that they looked like men, but just for visual impact: Dietrich, Eleanor Powell in her tux (mentioned by mjm), Greta Garbo in Queen Christina.

Also agree with "anon" about Miriam Schor - very hot! As CMG also stated, Meryl was amazing as the rabbi in AIA.

The post says "in movies." Angels in America was on TV.

Meryl as the rabbi in Angels in America.

Glenn Close is going in drag in the upcoming 'Albert Nobbs'

others I'd consider:-Greta Garbo in Queen Christina (1933)-Mary Pickford in Poor Little Rich Girl (1917) and Little Lord Fauntleroy (1921)-Marion Davies in Little Old New York (1923)-Doris Day in On Moonlight Bay (1951)-Louise Brooks in Beggars of Life (1928)-Liz Taylor in National Velvet (1944)-Clara Bow in Down to the Seas in Ships (1923)-Eleanor Powell in Broadway Melody of 1938 (1937)-Gloria Swanson I think dressed in drag in one of her early movies

Miriam Schor as Yitzhak in Hedwig......onstage and in movie.....looked exactly like an ex of mine....

Of the ones listed, Linda Hunt. I never knew it was a woman until after I saw the movie. Very convincing.

Suzy Amis was terrific in The Ballad of Little Jo (1993).

Linda Hunt was great as you mentioned and Hepburn also cut a striking figure--at least in the photo above and also in Sylvia Scarlett.

streisand was def the most ridiculous drag king. she refused to cut off her nails.

I never for a second thought Julie could pass as a man in VV--it was "egregious."  Now, as a dyke....

I'll go with Linda Hunt because I honestly didn't know it was a woman!!

Julie Andrews was fierce too.

The worst: Barbra.
