Casey Anthony: One Of The Three Most Shocking Verdicts Of Modern Times

Categories: Crime

When Casey Anthony was declared not guilty of murder the other day, jaws around the world dropped so low you would have heard a deafening thud, except it was drowned out by the sound of Nany Grace screaming her lungs out.

But Casey's not alone in benefiting from a jury's idea of "reasonable doubt."

Let's not forget ...

O.J. Simpson in 1995.

Despite a mountain of evidence, including overwhelming DNA, the jury convinced itself that O.J. may indeed have been framed!

The key plot point was the fact that his lawyer made a cute rhyme about how the criminal glove didn't fit.

But it had shrunk from being drenched in blood! From the two people he killed!

O.J. rode on his brothers' backs by using the fact that blacks have truly been framed for years, in order to get his own pampered ass off the hook.

He later got convicted of a way lesser crime, for which he got a very long sentence.

And ...

Robert Blake in 2005.

The jury didn't know who killed Blake's ex-wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, but somehow they figured it might not be him.

"It sure seemed like he was the only person with the opportunity, the motive, and the means to kill her," said commentator Jeffrey Toobin, shocked at the outcome.

But he's also famous -- and free!

Anyway, which of these verdicts is the one that made you throw up your gavel -- and lunch -- the most?

Too bad it didn't give Nancy Grace a coronary and land her in the hospital for a few months. I hate that harpie.

I was hoping that Grace's head would explode on TV the other night.  Now that would have been great Television!!

I know.  Grace reminds me of my nickel-plated bitch of a stepmother, right down to the accent, but without the hair and makeup.  She made a lot of money off this little girl's tragic death.

They are all bad...but what about those who are actually innocent but sent to jail with less evidence against them. Reasonable doubt is the right standard but we need to determine what is reasonable and what is not. There is a reasonable doubt presumption in each case but we need to determine objectively what is reasonable. Casey Anthoney's actions were not reasonable, OJs actions were not reasonable not the other guys either. If we are under that standard we need to broaden the scope and ask why these people were acting so unreasonable in the first place! Chances are it was because they had just killed sommeone.

What about Claudine Longet?

Casey Anthony wasn't that shocking, but OJ was. I remember breathing a sigh of relief though, everyone thought there would be riots if he was convicted.  More appalling are the cases where innocent people are convicted, but people don't talk about those as often.

O.J.'s case was the most egregious verdict, but the Anthony jury runs a close second.  Scott Peterson would have loved to have gotten Casey's jury, for there was no cause of death in that trial either.  If the Orlando jury could have ignored the 31 days, the computer searches, the hair banding and the decomposition odor in Casey's car, they probably would have found a way (a la O.J.)  to ignore DNA evidence as well   To paraphrase Jeff Ashton:  who would make a tragic accident look like a homicide?   I am still stunned.  And now we are hearing that certain Anthony jurors are demanding big bucks to tell their story.  That thought makes me ill.  Shame on them.

I have a friend who was in law school during the OJ trial and studied it for a class.  The class concluded that the verdict was the correct one, that the prosecution did not prove their case.  Just because you think someone is guilty, it still needs to be proved in a court.  Same with Casey, the DA should not have charged her with 1st degree murder.  They didn't have the case.

come on, people the prosecution did NOT prove their case!! it's as simple as that. NO DNA, NO WITNESSES, NO CAUSE OF MURDER. ETC ETC ETC

I think the three worst verdicts of the American people were 1) re-electing Ronald Reagan, 2) electing George H.W. Bush after eight years of Reagan, and 3) re-electing George W. Bush after the outrageous war on Iraq. Talk about trials!

The OJ was so shocking. I can still feel it like it was yesterday. And the rhyme wasn't even literate!! "If the glove don't fit..."
