Harry Potter's Fiery Finale: My Review

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue their quest of finding and destroying the Dark Lord's three remaining Horcruxes.

Don't be too impressed by all that.

I took it verbatim off IMDb.

I never have any idea what's going on in these Harry Potter movies -- what the heck is a Horcrux? -- but I generously submit to the wizardry at hand, both of the characters and the filmmakers.

In this case, I thought things started really slowly, but they built to some enjoyably moody weirdness. (No one does creepy as well as Alan Rickman and there's a fun showdown between Julie Walters and Helena Bonham Carter, probably over billing. And oh, the creatures without noses! How Hollywood can you get?)

I was also delighted that the whole thing was in 2-D because I am really tired of wearing those boring glasses and feeling my head throb for two-plus hours.

And I have to say Daniel Radcliffe looks especially fetching in the epilogue which takes place -- SPOILER ALERT -- "19 years later." He'll obviously make a very fine grown-up.

But after all these characters have been through, one wonders why they still run and scream when they're followed by stuff like fire shaped like a serpent. You want to yell at the screen, "Relax! You'll get through it! You've experienced way worse!"

By the end of it, I can't say I felt I'd experienced some transcendent series to equal The Godfather or even The Lord of the Rings.

But as far as summer sequels go, it's done with care and manages to get to the Horcrux of things.

Nice job. Now goodbye, Harry! Go away!

--gay one, I meant.  Sorry!  (Where's the edit button here?)

So, the filmmakers included the lame epilogue from the book.  So happy, so married, so heterosexual.  (Sorry, Dumbledore, but I guess you're the only one in the whole 7-book series).

I saw it. He takes his shirt off at one pt. and he looks OK but somehow it's nowhere near as buff as in those Equus photos.

A fair review. Thanks for being truthful.
