It can't be easy being City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, the powerful lesbian who runs around making speeches and pushing things forward.

But at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Post Pride bash the other night, I gave Quinn a light moment.

Quinn had made a big speech at the event, rallying the crowd of LGBT power figures with her every fiery utterance.

But upstairs, where I was standing, the acoustics were like mud, and all I heard was a sort of yelping sound which was extraordinarily dramatic but maddeningly vague.

When I met Quinn later on, I told her the sound was terrible, but she sounded really emphatic -- "sort of like Evita Perón."

"Whatever it takes," she cracked.

That gave us both a gay giggle.
