Glee The 3D Concert Movie Not Gleeful At The Box Office

It came in 11th at the b.o. on its debut last Friday and has since only amassed $7,588,666.

It's still at number 11 -- and what's with that 666?

So why is Glee not burning up the Hollywood moolah scene?

My guesses (which include those from datalounge.com respondents):

(1) You can get it for free on TV.

(2) It was marketed too much to Gleeks, making it feel a little too insular and insidery.

(3) The 3-D trend has waned, and the oft-burned public is wary to spend the extra three bucks on it.

(4) They turned the movie around too fast. (A friend of mine was at a concert they filmed at and the result was in theaters just weeks later.)

(5) In the movie, the actors refer to themselves as their characters. Some have found this creepy.

But I'll shut up now. If it was a smash, I'd be listing the reasons why that happened.

It's too easy to surmise a situation after the fact. After all, I'm the one who said Madonna was going nowhere!

If fans of Glee are getting over the show, then why were all of their concerts sold out - and in some cases, so quickly that they were prompted to add additional dates and matinées? I think Glee's flop had more to do with bad marketing ("If you missed the concert, this movie is for you. Everyone else? Go do over there, and leave us alone") and bad promotion. I am a big fan of the show, and I don't think I saw a single commercial/advert/poster that wasn't something I went looking for on the internet; how are slightly-less-loyal fans supposed to get excited over something they aren't even expecting? The ratings speak for themselves -- most people who saw the movie, loved it (as did I - enjoying it twice) -- it was just a problem of getting people into the theater to begin with.

For once, I don't care what the reason is, I just hope that finally Kidz Bop (Gay edition) is almost over.

Please don't send me to Marcus Bachman's school for saying this...but Glee is getting to a point where it is just too gay for me.  Whiney and whimpy and schmaltz and cornball.  Just too pretty....I'd like to see more raunch and poppers and students who fart when they dance.

Fads burn faster these days. A hit one day is over the next. And the public has a shorter attention span now.  Marketers are going to make as much money as they can as quickly as possible on any given product/show/news item. Because in ten minutes the public will be on to the next thing. And it ain't slowin' down.

How did I get over Glee so fast?  I loved it in the beginning.

Here is reason number 6: The fans of Glee are getting over the show. The movie flopping might seem as an indicator to this Fall Season as it's last. This coming season they are not even going to be singing. I agree with all of your points by the way especially number 5: "I am an actor therefore I am the character & the same person, that is creepy?!

That wasn't the actors faults they didn't decide to be in character. The producer and directer decided that.
