A Sweet, Romantic Movie About Gays

WEEKEND-Tom-Cullen-and-Chris-New-600x300.jpg

Andrew Haigh's Weekend has been described as a gay Before Sunrise.

The British film has two guys (played by Tom Cullen and Chris New) hooking up at a nightclub and spending the title period of time together for a fleeting yet meaningful taste of intimacy that may change their lives.

It's not monumental, just a smart little film -- with giggles, shared secrets, drugs, orgasms, pathos, and a lot of mumbling -- and the club scenes deftly capture the glitzy awkwardness that often fills places of alleged fun.

Finally, we have a movie where gays are center screen and they aren't villains, victims, or bouncily asexual.

So you might want to spend time with Weekend.

You've certainly sat through the straight version.

They definitely should make more movies like this one. I definitely plan to see it.Thanks as always, Michael, for informing us Must Men what's good out there.

I'll probably see it!  I went to see Beginnings about a 75 year old man who comes out.  This movie sounds like a riot in comparison.

I didn't like Before Sunrise, so a gay version of that? Yeek.

Thank you for the recommendation. But it doesn't really sound special enough to see it before it pops up on Netflix.
