Bowie & Marianne Faithfull: "I Got You Babe"

Categories: Celebs

The year was 1973.

TV's Midnight Special aired David Bowie's 1980 Floor Show, a mind altering revue of rock, frocks, and genderplay.

In one highlight, Bowie, dressed like a glammed-up street hooker from Mars, and Marianne Faithfull, dolled up like a glitzy nun from the French highway, duetted on the Sonny and Cher classic "I Got You Babe."

And they sang the freak out of it, making it sexy, fun, and even touching in a way that nimbly melded the otherworldly with kitchen-sink realness.

It doesn't get better or more advanced than this.

And supposedly he did her after the show.

if more white people thought like bowie and faithful--then and now--what a wonderful world this would be!

Way more off-key than anything Carly Simon and James Taylor did together. Quite an achievement really, as far as those things go.

"Whyd Ya Do It" by Marianne is my favorite lyric of all time.  "You just tied me to the mast of the Ship of Fools."

I don't care if it is hip to like her - I can't tolerate her singing.

They looked so young--and fabulous. But did you ever hear such lousy voices?

Who's who? And who was the most high? Was this from the year that Bowie doesn't remember?

This rivals the Sonny & Cher version. it's freaky but at the same time really sweet. An amazing clip.

Right. Sonny Bono was an opera singer, as I recall.

Jonster - I was just thinking of that song and "why'd you let 'er suck your cock?"
