Fuck You, Dancing With The Stars!

The show is including Chaz Bono, which is a welcome addition of a transgender person to the ballroom.

But will they ever incorporate a same-sex couple?

The show came closest to actualizing a gay duo just moments ago, when they considered putting Carson Kressley with a man.

But they rethought it!

Yep, they pas-de-deuxdied right out of that possibility.

Says exec producer Conrad Green:

"We try to follow what happens in real ballroom competitions.

"That was the original intention of the show.

"And while we are aware that there are same-sex couples, the competitions are usually mixed-gendered."

Oh, please! If blacks still had to use separate bathrooms, would you go along with that, too?

And corporate CEOs are "usually" men. Does that mean a female one would be not something you can get behind?

And truth be told, it's not just a matter of "there are same-sex couples" out there.

There are TONS of amazing gay couples spinning around the floor with way more élan than Bristol Palin and her patient male.

A gay couple I saw at an Edison Ballroom competition last year was eye-poppingly good and told me they travel the world dazzling audiences and judges on a regular basis.

Yep, the gay ballroom scene is so big it's almost as noticeable as Marie Osmond fainting for the cameras.

Why doesn't Dancing just admit that they're wusses who are afraid of a little controversy rather than hiding behind some larger arena's homophobia as an excuse?

The dance they're doing around this issue is appalling.

Why not lead the public instead of clumsily following them?

I am gay myself and have many fellow gay friends we. Do dance with eachother but we don't haveto boycott a show for the fact that there isn't a gay person do we not ourselves enjoy Shows With straight people its like an asian Person saying they don't like A Show because they've never seen an asian in It or a black person saying they aintwatching and don't like. A good show just for the fact there isn't a black Person included. If u don't like it change honey than change the channel. ,and our media is already supporting gays must we push it upon everyone we are fighting for choice are we not that's what they chose they aren't following media because they'd have. A gay couple by now

Interesting article - the show seems to be such a cultural phenomenon that recently seemed to somehow get politically active with Bristol Palin- so why not be more socially active as well? Having a same sex couple on a show that people are regularly devoted to would expose them to something new, while still feeling comfortable with a show that has been on the air for years. Entertainment and the arts seems to be a great way to really push people forward in terms of social acceptance (yay!)... plus, it probably would have earned them more ratings and isn't that all they're after anyway?

Face it. America isn't ready for a man in 6 inch stilettos dancing the face off every woman there. Women who watch want their Danielle Steele fantasy. The sponsors want what brings in the women. I'm sure the sponsors are the ones who would prefer to keep the fantasy alive while Drew Barrymore sells their lipstick and Marie Osmond hawks NutriSystem.  If they every have a Saudi Prince on the show, you will then have your polygamist.

One of the local channels is showing professionals doing ballroom dancing as counter programming.  They are incredible performers.  Highly trained, beautifully groomed and gowned, exquisite dancing.  But of course they are performing for an older crowd.

i watched a preview of Chaz dancing, Dont get me wrong, its great that hes doing this but people will watch because they want to laugh at the fat guy. He was very clumsy from what I saw. Another thing Cher says she doesn't like snooki or kardashians because their famous for not doing anything, but now Chaz is on DWTS with the male Kardashian?

Controversy can equal ratings. Ratings can equal a longer life for the show.

I'm pissed they don't have polygamous and polyamorous dance troops.  Why don't they represent the millions of Mormons and Muslims who have multiple wives (and sometimes husbands)?  DWTS are pussies for not having three female dancers with one male partner, this truly shows their bigotry and discrimination against an entire segment of our population.  DWTS, STOP THE DISCRIMINATION!

Viv

You're an idiot. It's not saying that every single segment of the population has to be represented (though it would be nice if they were). Just  that a popular component around the world in the ballroom arena--same-sex couples--be thrown in just once to show that these things exist a LOT. Mormons gave up bigamy ages ago, except on reality shows, so I don't know what you're talking about. And when anyone does practice bigamy, they certainly don't dance with all the wives at once. That's never been seen! So it would be absurd for a reality show to represent that. But gay couples dance all the time and it IS bigotry to omit that.

You're the same type of moron that said about gay marriage, "What about marrying sheep?" Your logic has no logic to it.

1.) Wings, DWTS does not discriminate against anyone when choosing contestants.  Clearly they are open to people of all religions, genders, and sexual orientations (i.e. Chaz (transgender), Carson (gay), Nancy Grace (bestiality, or at least she looks and acts like a pig)).

2.) Viv and Wings, the point I was trying to make is that DWTS bases their show off of professional dance competitions (such as USA Dancing competitions), which feature male/female pairings.  Its their show, and their choice to do whatever they want.  It would be just as silly for them to feature same sex couples dancing as it would to feature a 3 person dance troop of polygamous Mormons...why? Because it isn't part of the professional ballroom circuit.  I know that a lot of dance clubs and organizations have started up in the past 5 years that allow and promote same-sex pairings, but so haven't many organizations and dance clubs that feature multiple dancers in dance troops, and lets not forget the growing popularity of multiple partner dancing styles like Salsa de Cubano and line dancing. Does this justify having a multiple partner dance component on DWTS?  Does this show some sort of discrimination against people who dance with multiple partners?  Is this some conspiracy to attack people who lead lives with multiple partners...like mormons or muslims?  No, no, no, and no.  Its just the style of the show the creators adopted.

3.) Viv, I support gay/transgender/lesbian marriage, obviously.  And I don't think the sheep argument is a valid one against gay marriage.  But I must point out that YOU, NOT ME, are the closed minded one if you are open to gay marriage, but oppose polygamy or polyamory.  Consenting adults, who are above the age of 18, should have the right to love and marry one another no matter their sexual orientation, race, religion, or choice of one spouse or 10.  Why discriminate against bigamy?  Don't you realize, the fight gays and lesbians have been leading for decades has opened up the legal doors to polygamy, and justifiably.  If all you need for marriage is love, an appropriate age, and consent, then why discriminate against people having multiple partners.  Open up your mind and stop the hate Viv.

Yes, they have gay people but they won't let them dance with each other!! Gay people generally dance with each other!!!!

Chill, bitch. Utahfamily was no doubt being ironic.

The show DOES allow all religions. They had Marie Osmond, who was raised Mormon. They don't question your religion before booking you. Nor do they rule you out because of birthplace, hair color, or anything else. Only forbidden are same-sex couples. Rock on, Musto.

There is a same sex couple.  Chaz Bono is a transgender female, and will be dancing with...a female.  Chaz doesn't have a penis yet, so while legally a male, Chaz is still a female.  That's pretty controversial right now in the media, and DWTS is sticking to their guns.  Instead of just getting angry, why not applaud DWTS for having the balls to include a transgender dancer.  If DWTS feels their audience, and the general public, are applauding this move then it is much more likely they will include other same-sex couples and transgender dancers in the future.

The new "diversity" list this year: transgender, homosexual and felon!  I used to think diversity was "different ethnic group".  What will it be in ten years?  Not much left.

Bravo!!!! Well said. Besides, it's a TV show and they can do whatever they want. Real ballroom competitions would never have celebrities fumbling around, but funny, they allow that on the show! Why not gay couples?
