Drag Bar Turns 15 Years Old!

Yes, it's true.

In a few years, the drag restaurant/cabaret Lips -- which has spawned locations in wacky places like San Diego and Fort Lauderdale -- will be legal!

Yvonne Lame's joint (which moved from the Village to East 56th Street last year) is such an institution they even have their own brand of bottled water now (see above).

"Fit for a queen," exclaims the bottle.

But I'd rather dehydrate and not mess with my lip gloss.

Salutations !!! To the intrepid and visionary founders of Lips,... I'm proud of you fellas !! And,... a warm tip of the hat to all the "gals". To move in an arc where creativity and the release of societal inhibitions,... curves towards a realized ends,... is no small feat. Bravo !!!

Lips is right next to my office building.  I was driving out of the garage one day and I noticed a sparkly, rhinestone-encrusted, bewigged drag queen walking to the deli with a "bodyguard" amidst all the suits and secretaries.  It was like seeing Marilyn on the street.  Kinda.  After a hard weekend, maybe.

Although the Village lost a landmark when they moved, they really do have a great space in the new location. Food was very good when we went and a good time was had by all! Long live Lips!
