Sending Flowers: I've Figured Out The Best Way

I never trust those sites or toll-free numbers that you contact to send flowers to someone.

How can you be sure that the photo on the site isn't some grossly exaggerated glorification of the real bouquet?

I always picture the horrified recipient getting delivered a one-inch-high bunch of dwarfed roses, the floral equivalent of the teensy-weensy pyramid in This Is Spinal Tap.

And worse, what if they send hydrangeas by mistake?

So I simply go to the floral shop myself, where it's so much easier to see exactly what you're getting and for how much.

In person, I can haggle for a few extra lilies or a bunch less baby's breaths and even negotiate the final price, since I've pretty much got them by the balls and can walk away at any time.

Then I simply hop back on my bike and deliver the shit myself!

I also don't consider myself above buying those perfectly nice bouquets they sell outside various bodegas, which I also end up hand-delivering.

Of course, these ideas only work for local gift-giving.

Help!

I'm way late with this advice, Mr Musto, but I find 1800 Godiva, or however you do it, is as appreciated as flowers in some quarters.

Just ask them for the flowers without a vase, baby's breath, frou-frou, just the flowers themselves and let your mom arrange them.  That's what I do.

That's class. A bouquet, not an arrangement. Always do it yourself, especially for first nights. They can always tell.

It was teeny-weeny model of Stonehenge in Spinal Tap not a pyramid.

One oozes class and is well-remembered with a less than one hundred dollar gift from Tiffany.  Always.

michael- what if you started a day business where we could order flowers and have you deliver them by bike!Get you flowers delivered by Michael Musto- and you could tell the recipient a little gossip when you drop them off!LOL

Ditto re: 1-800...my aunt's b'day is around Thanksgiving time...I don't see her till Christmas, but she raves about them and she's picky and would let me know it.

Your ideas are not half bad at all. But calling 1 800 flowers or whatever it is usually ends up ok. What they show is what they get.
