Bloomberg Media To Be Rocked with Discrimination Lawsuit

I've just learned that Bloomberg Media's international managing director of television, Brian Martinez -- whom I knew back in the '90s club days -- is filing suit with that company for having been relieved of his duties in July.

Martinez's suit alleges that he was the victim of anti-gay discrimination and also perceived disability discrimination.

After a domestic-violence incident with his then-partner, Martinez says his employer deemed him mentally incapacitated to continue working, though he says a doctor found him perfectly capable.

Bloomberg Media's official comment is:

"Throughout his 10-plus years at Bloomberg, Brian was open about his sexual orientation and was promoted multiple times. We have always been a leader in providing benefits to domestic partners, and we covered the health benefits of Brian's partners including an international relocation of his partner from Tokyo to London.

"Any hint that his termination was related to sexual orientation is ludicrous to anyone who knows Brian or knows this company."

Having worked in the television business in London and Asia, he is widely regarded as one of the most hated managers in the industry. Period.

Unbelievable

In my opinion, this has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with the money. If I were gay, I would not want this man representing me. I worked for Brian and it was the most unpleasant and painful work environment I've ever experienced. There were people who suffered nervous and physical breakdowns while I was there. As soon as the news broke about the lawsuit everyone I know expressed support for Bloomberg. He was the only boss I ever had who I never saw write one story. I have no idea if he can write. He was a master at the political game. We used to joke he learnt his management skills at the "Adolf Hitler school of Management and Human Relations". I pray there is such thing as Karma.

I doubt many of the people who worked with Brian Martinez would be surprised at the news that there were doubts about his mental capacity to work.

I think Martinez is very brave in confronting Bloomberg. Does the Mayor actually know that one of his top people  (International Managing Director TV) got the boot after many promotions over the years and a stella r record?

I've worked with Brian in multiple organizations and years and also knew him in the 90s club days.  He is an awesome guy. Nobody gets into a position as high as Brian has without having some underlings mad at him.  But if they are so petty to feel compelled to air them on a blog like this, it shows their maturity level was probably such that they had problems at work. Considering it's been quite some time, they truly need to get over it.  I loved working with Brian and regardless of the law suit, wich him the best of luck.
