Rosie O'Donnell's New Show Is Fabulous

I loved Rosie O'Donnell's daytime show in the '90s, and her new show on OWN -- which debuted last night -- turns out to be pretty much the same thing, but with a few advancements:

*Rosie is now an out lesbian, of course.

*She mixes more salty realness into her positive stew.

*And by now, Rosie is a seasoned pro who doesn't waste one second of airtime.

Last night, she started with some stand-up, which included cute stories about the kids, some audience interaction, and a guest spot by fellow lesbian Suze Orman, followed by a zippy musical number in which Rosie was backed by shirtless studs.

Already we'd gotten enough entertainment value for a whole week of talk shows.

Then came a lengthy interview with Russell Brand, who never mentioned Katy Perry and who bizarrely kept talking about how he used to be annoying, but who was lively and fun, guided by Rosie's expert interviewing approach, which kept striking the right tones, even as they delved into serious topics like addiction and mental imbalance.

The show ended with a zany game show segment ("The Ro Game"), climaxing with tons of confetti dropping as Oprah Winfrey herself entered to give her benediction.

I never felt violated, which is extremely unusual for a talk show, especially a new one.

Welcome back, Rosie.

The show sucks.  It started with a glimmer of promise but now. . .

1.  Too loud2.  Too dark3.  The sound is tinny4.  Rosie wearing too much make up and methinks might have had a wee bit of Botox 5.  All of her guests seem to be her "friends"

Press says her ratings dropped 49% compared to last week.  Come back to NYC and RELAX!

Rosie O' Dullard is boring, too damn loud and oh yeah NOT FUNNY. Her act is as old as she is. I can't believe someone gave her an entire hour to bore the masses. TAKE HER OFF!!!

I’m on the fence about her format. I think she’ll need totweak her ‘interview’ segments down in timing because if her guest is notinteresting (like Russell Brand…ugh!), viewers will switch the channel and maynot return to watch the rest of the show given that the guest segment currently fallsduring the all-important ‘bottom of the hour’ time slot.

The Rosie Show is a breath of fresh air. Like the format, like the pace. It is definitely appointment TiVo.

The NEW Ellen.

I triple LOVE Rosie in everything she has done, but she seemed a bit nervous last night for the 2nd show.  Also her voice seemed strained.  Keep well, good luck and God bless, Rosie.  So happy you're back on T.V.!!

Maybe she'd gotten the ratings for the first show.

When Gilad Shilat was captured and held hostage here in Gaza he spent the last 6 years chained in indentured servitude as a domestic cleaner. He was rostered to our house Thursday mornings. God he was useless! - clunking around in leg irons trying to mop the tiles kvetching about the shitty conditions of his imprisonment - Shut up already and clean my f***ing house you hideous little yid. So you can imagine the cheering and celebrating now in Gaza that finally he can be released sent back to Yob Shalom or whatever hell hole town in Israel he's from. Jews make the worst hostages. I bet the Egyptians paid Moses to take the Israelites outa Egypt.

No one wants Rosie to be a success more than Oprah.  It's Oprah's network that hired her.  Oprah gave Rosie her state of the art studio and her highly professional staff.  And Oprah didn't upstage her.  She simply walked out during the final credits to lend public support.

Even though this article is written by Michael Musty, I enjoy hearing that her show is a hit. Rosie Rocks.

She just has a natural talent which makes her a perfect fit for the OWN.  My hope is that Oprah is figuring out what to do with the rest of the tired, rehashed shows she has on her channel.

I'd love to see Rosie's show.

But why can't Oprah spend a couple of her gazillions to tell individual markets where her  goddam channel IS, for Crissakes?

Way Down Yonder on Cox, it's Channel 100-something-or-other.

I like Rosie because of the good she does for kids in the New York theater.  She does a lot of undercover charity work.  I'd watch the show if she had interesting guests (like Brand, who is so good at "off the cuff"), but I still have a bad taste in my mouth over her "variety" show which was the bomb of the century.  It made me question her abilities a little.  How could she not see how bad it was?

Didn't Steve Bocho do Cop Rock before NYPD Blue?

Honestly, I think she was in the middle of the divorce at that time and apologized profusely on her radio show. (It was pretty bad and I'm a superfan). She knew it was not lit correctly, etc, but it was 'too far gone'. I forgive her. Someone accused her in Chgo media of being"all over the place". That's why I love her. I love GLee and current political events at the same time also!

Another reason for me to be angry at myself for choosing not to own a TV just to save a few bucks. I love Rosie, always have. When I went to Club Med at six, one of the kids' camp counselors called me "Mini Rosie". I've realized more and more how much she and I are alike ever since. I'd love to meet her one day, I think we'd really hit it off.

Glad to hear it's good. Maybe it can save the whole channel.

You mean she didn't talk about how she has a crush on Tom Cruise?
