Did Paula Deen's Diet Cause Her Diabetes?

This article delves into the possibilities, wondering, "How can bacon-doughnut egg burgers possibly be good for you?"

Damned if I know, chomp slurp chomp!

But the piece goes on to to note that experts say someone's diet doesn't directly lead to diabetes.

The main factors for getting the disease are genetics, being overweight, and lack of exercise. (Plus the older you get, the more you're at risk. Deen is 64.)

Still, don't bacon-doughnut-egg burgers lead to being overweight, which happens to be a major factor for diabetes?

Yes, but as Deen told the Today show, "I have aways encouraged moderation."

Me too! I down my bacon-doughnut-egg burgers with Diet Coke!

And I hold the pickle!

But how's this for moderation:

Deen just told Parade she will never use a substitute for butter.

As she explains:

"Margarine is one molecule away from eating plastic. If I'm going to eat that type of food, it's going to be the real deal. There is a good chance that I can cut down on the amount of butter now that I'm aware, but will I cut butter out of my life completely? No. I will take measurements to manage it."

Same here. Butter for sex only!

I guess she needs to reduce her weight which indirectly helps her to get rid of disease and yes taking healthy diet also help her..

I think on Rick Dees Radio show he was doing a run down of some of her items at her restaurant...one of the items was bread pudding made with krispy creme donuts instead of bread. Now thats got to get that sugar up and off the charts! In the interest of trying to save eyesight, kidneys and limbs the medical establishment and no doubt the pharmacy industrial complex lowered the guidelines as to what(now) constitutes Diabetes...get ready for your diagnosis!

A doctor told me, for whatever that's worth, that the biggest component of Type II diabetes is genetic, meaning if you don't have the gene(s), you can eat sugar all day long and you won't develop diabetes. It's not a really smart way to eat though - can also clog up your arteries and contribute to other problems.

I used to watch Paula's shows on Food Network, and found that them increasingly distasteful, second only to wondering when Giada was going to have a wardrobe malfunction.  I have watched segments of all 3 of her shows and I can't recall moderation being mentioned in any of them.  It was add 3/4 of a stick of butter and "Oops I accidentally dropped in the other 1/4 stick".  I find the way she samples her food disgusting.  I feel sorry for her.

She's great. Her recipes are great. Everything in moderation! And I hope she sticks to her new diet and gets healthy. Her brand is a little overextended and will now probably include a diabetes cookbook but what the hell!

She's the poster child for "you are what you eat."  I watched her show occasionally, mostly like one has a hard tiime passing by the scene of an accident without looking.  I never heard her talk about moderation.  It would have been a wasted sentiment in any event since 99 percent of  the show was about the decadence of the recipe.

She's a phony pure and simple, a fat phony--completely irresponsible for hiding her diabeties while continuing to peddle unhealthy foods--and now profiting on her self-induced infliction.

BTW, I do eat butter, and sometimes lots of sugar.  But I really do eat in moderation, and have a physically active lifestyle.  Take one look at her and you can guess how much exercise and how much moderation she practices.

Her Grandma Hires Carrot Cake is the best thing you can stick in your mouth. Well, almost.

The butter's probably OK, but she needs to cut way down on sugar!!

I'm sorry about her diabetes, but I was never much of a fan.

then why bother commenting?

"Why bother commenting?"

Because we come here to dissect celebrities, right? And I was just stating that I don't care for her show. Is that all right with you?
