Sandra Bernhard Turned Down Sex and the City

Categories: TV

On Howard Stern's show, mouthy comic Sandra Bernhard admitted that she turned down the role of Miranda on Sex and the City.

Batshit crazy?

No, hold on people, hear out her reasons.

For one thing, she says, the script was absolutely horrible.

Secondly, they were only paying $7,500 a week.

And what's more, "To play third or fourth fiddle to Sarah Jessica Parker and put up with her shit?"

Nyah-uh.

But Cynthia Nixon decided it would be a good move, famously enough.

I guess she considered it a choice.

I've never watched Sex and the City but I think she made a good decision. We know who she is and there is no "from Sex and the City" following her name. Anyway, she's great, funny, talented, and sexy. I would think that she's able to do what she wants without a lot of compromise. That's really success. I know "only $7,500 a week" sounds like she's spoiled, but she might be talking about "only" in comparison to what stars on television make.

She's nuts, I liked SATC from the first episode, it was different, it was funny, it had a great cast and locations.  No one could've played Miranda as well as Cynthia Nixon, she was perfect.  Loved Sandra on "Roseanne" (who is getting a new primetime NBC series "Downwardly Mobile").

I really like Sandra but I hate to admit that she sounds like a douche bag

she should re-do the hit: if madonna calls i´m not here!

Probably the real reason was that she and Madonna were too busy circling the East Village in a limo doing little and big things.

I know. People always say "I turned that down" when in reality it was just a discussion, not a firm offer.

Did you confirm this with anybody?  I have a feeling the most it was was that someone called her agent and asked her to audition.

"Only" $7500 a week?  I wish I was paid that.  Sometimes I hate celebs.

This from the woman who did "Follow That Bird."

Those early episodes were terribly written.  Remember the greek chorus of random men on the street commenting on the action?  Awful.

"she says, the script was absolutely horrible."

I'm translating that to mean "not edgy enough for my fan base"

Right, but her career would be in a WAY different place now and she could have gotten tons of endorsements and side jobs (as Howard points out).

Well, well, well she does have a brain in her head. (That's not all about money and faux-fame). The script was horrible, the show was predictable and horrible. RIP NYC. 'Classic' is not a word I'd ever use to describe SATC.

"The script was absolutely horrible"?? Sex and the City?? Is this the same show I'm thinking about--the one that became a TV classic???
