Whitney Houston's Funeral: Make Sure To Watch

Categories: Whitney Houston

This is the biggest must-see tragic viewing since Michael Jackson's memorial (though her family wants quite a different feeling -- something smallish and intimate).

It will be poignant, tearful, and filled with people who loved and felt for Whitney, as well as some who probably asked too much of her as they forced her into their idea of what she should represent and achieve.

The event will happen tomorrow at noon at Newark's New Hope Baptist Church.

Gospel singer and family friend Marvin Winans will perform the eulogy.

Heavyweights like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder will sing -- and no doubt sing her praises.

Dionne Warwick, Alicia Keys, and Tyler Perry (out of drag) are also on the bill.

And The Bodyguard's Kevin Costner is reported to be speaking.

(Hopefully, he won't use the word "neat.")

What's more, Bobby Brown is showing up, despite reports that he was unwanted there.

It will all be viewable online at livestream.com/aplive, and it's also available for broadcasters.

I'm definitely turning off the abs-machine infomercial for this.

Farewell, Whitney.

They can sing and wail and praise Jesus for you, but they'll never replace your voice.

Corey Booker said he had the privilege of welcoming everyone to his great city of Newark.

For a funeral, Corey!!!

And then he invoked all kinds of "god" and "heaven" terminology. Whatever happened to separation between church and state?

That was just the gospel choir, Now it's started with some flaming queen praising God and saying everyone should turn off their cell phones.

It's on CNN too. And it's starting out BORING.

They're now saying it's not a funeral, it's a "home going service."

I find this whole affair ghoulish and in the worst possible taste.

Celebrity funerals should be handled in the manner in which Joe DiMaggio gave Marilyn Monroe some dignity at the end. A truly private service, cameras kept at a distance and attendance denied those he felt had hastened her end.

He may have been less than "An Ideal Husband," but near the end, he sprung her from the loony bin, gave her one of the only vacations she ever had and held off  the jackals who prey on the defenseless.

And then NEVER talked about her to feed public curiosity.

Bill Maher just tweeted this:

"Nancy Grace catching flak for suggesting Whitney murdered. It's progress: First time she ever cared what happened to a black girl."

I can't bare to watch Whitney Houston's funeral!  I still can't believe that one fo the greatest voices of my generation is DEAD!  And what for...because that's life, some say, well where the FUCK were all those people who made tons of money off her (at one point she was reportedly worth 100 million dollars) off her when she needed them the most? She trusted the wrong people and they let her down....Maybe she was tired of being perceived as a "good girl" when she married that talentless scumbag Bobbie Brown, but why couldn't anybody help her along the way?  Just like Michael Jackson, who was her longtime friend, Whitney chose to NOT LISTEN and married him nonetheless. Should we blame Bobbie Brown?  I think he may have enabled her, but fundamentally I think that Whitney did what Whitney wanted....because it came easy for her with her GOD GIVEN VOICE!  Creatures like Whitney can fly so high that they nearly touch the sun and burn themselves to death! But I thought she was on the remend with getting her life back together and then she goes and senselessly dies in a bathtub with her entire retinue of hair and makeup people and bodyguards waitng right outside her suite.......how prophetic and somewhat pathetic! So the younger generations refer to her as that "crack is whack" singer who influenced singers like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera and even Rihanna I hear!  But Whitney was the ORIGINAL in my book!  Even Jennifer Hudson, during her Whitney-Grammy Awards tribute, showed some respectful restraint and didn't try to out-sing or over-sing a song which in itself was a cover song of Dolly Parton's. You could see that Jennifer Hudson was genuinely emotional and extremely distraught because Whitney Houston was the diva who presented Ms. Hudson with her first Grammy award many years previously! So much personal history with Ms. Houston, too much to go into now!  I, like so many millions of fans worldwide, MISS HER DESPERATELY and wish that she didn't follow the same path of self destruction as Michael Jackson did, because they were both originals and 2 of the greatest perfomers of all time!Montgomery Frazier "The Image Guru"

Nice piece. But she left out the part about how "I licked her pussy for years."

Weren't Bobby and Cissy on the Larence Welk Show? Though I was never sure which of the two was the real cissy.
